Lonnie Lee Whetzel Sr., 77, of Bealeton, went to be with the Lord on September 10, 2018, at Fairfax Hospital.
A veteran of the United States Army, Lonnie was a master carpenter who worked in all fields of construction through his life. His skills allowed him to build all his family’s homes and Mt. Holly Baptist Church's pavilion and fellowship hall. His life touched many as he dedicated his life to Christ’s work as a deacon in the church.
Lonnie is survived by his wife of 58 years, Ruth Jean Whetzel of Bealeton; his daughter, Jeanna Marie Sawyers and husband Steve; his sons, Lonnie Lee Whetzel Jr. and Eric Carson Whetzel; his brothers, Richard Whetzel, Arnold Huffman and wife Shirley, Eugene Huffman and wife Thelma; his sister, Hilda Nicholson; nine grandchildren (and “Granddaddy” to many more), and five great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, September 16, at Mt. Holly Baptist Church, 6172 Sumerduck Road, Remington. The funeral will take place at 11 a.m. Monday, September 17, at the church. Burial will follow in the Mt. Holly Cemetery. A reception will follow in the pavilion.
