Retired U.S. Army Col. Paul Robert Buckley, 84, of Warrenton, died Tuesday, September 26, 2017, at The Adler Center in Aldie after a long battle with lung cancer and COPD.
He was born November 17, 1932, in Natick, Massachusetts, to the late Edward and Violet Buckley.
A lifelong student, he attended Harvard and the universities of Oklahoma and Nebraska.
Col. Buckley’s distinguished military career included commanding a Field Artillery Battalion in Vietnam and service in the office of the Army Chief of Staff. After retiring from the Army, he enjoyed a career in banking in Baltimore.
Col. Buckley was an enthusiastic marathon walker who organized many March of Dimes events.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, the former Helen Wheeler; their two daughters, Dorothy Helen Buckley and Victoria Buckley Hackler, and their beloved grandchildren, Caroline Hackler, Evan Hackler and Lauren Hackler.
He was preceded in death by seven siblings, Edward, Neil, Charles, Eleanor, William, Dorothy and George Buckley.
The funeral will take place at 10:45 a.m. Wednesday, January 24, at the Old Post Chapel at Ft. Myer, followed by burial in Arlington National Cemetery with full military honors.
