Phil Morris, 82, of Warrenton, died April 28, 2017, at home.
He was born Dec. 3, 1934, in Spottswood, Augusta County, Va., to the late George Phillip Morris Sr. and Mary Louise Morris.
Mr. Morris enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps and was honorably discharged as a sergeant. He earned his bachelor’s degree at William & Mary and a master’s at the University of Virginia.
Mr. Morris began his teaching career at Wilson Memorial High School and spent many years at Fauquier High School, before retiring from Brentsville District High School. He taught physical education and health as well as driver’s education. He coached many sports and was an avid sports fan. As a young man, he played minor league baseball with the Staunton Braves.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Fran Morris; four children, Lynn Kruse, Robin Morris, Lori Morris and Brian Morris; his sisters, Pat Thomas, Sandie Morris Roberts, Lolita Armstrong and Bonnie Pennell, and his grandchildren, Rachel Morris, Kate Kruse, Connor Kruse, Tyler Kruse, Andrew Morris and Alex Morris.
A brother, Lee Morris, preceded him in death.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11 a.m. Friday, May 5, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic in Warrenton. A reception will follow at the church’s Mercy Hall. Inurnment will be at a later date at Arlington National Cemetery.
