Robert William “Bob” Helms, 86, of Warrenton, passed away, surrounded by family, on February 23, 2018.
He was a proud Eagle Scout, Master Mason of more than 50 years and Army Veteran.
He received his master’s degree in public administration from American University and served as deputy director of resource management at the Defense Communications Agency.
Upon his retirement, Mr. Helms continued life as a public servant, winning numerous awards over the next 25 years for his outstanding contributions with the IRS VITA program.
He will be lovingly remembered as a “pickin & grinnin” guitar lover, great joke teller, hard worker and mighty protector of his wife, children and grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son, Robert William Helms Jr.
Survivors includ3 his wife, Sylvia; his children, Tony Davis (Pam), Beverly Lynch (Rob), Judy Rudder (Tony); grandchildren: Jackie Kempfer (Chris), Branden Helms (Leigh), Reba Priscilla, Cheyenne Smith (Cameron), Amber McNeal, Jen Black (Darren), Robert W. Helms, III (Jamie), Ashley Davis and numerous great-grandchildren.
He would often quote: “Don’t tell me how hard you work, tell me how much you get done”. He certainly got a lot done.
The service will take place at 2 p.m. Tuesday, February 27, at Moser Funeral Home in Warrenton, with visitation from 1 to 2 p.m. Burial will be private.
