William Edward Buck III, 89, of Warrenton, passed away on October 21, 2017, at Fauquier Hospital.
He was born on September 2, 1928, at Greenwood, Mississippi, to the late William Edward Buck Jr. and Miriam Hannah Kaufman Buck.
Mr. Buck served in the United States Air Force for four years, having been honorably discharged with the rank of staff sergeant. He was employed with the Central Intelligence Agency and then the Environmental Protective Agency.
He was a longtime member of Our Saviour Lutheran Church in Warrenton. Mr. Buck also was a longtime active member and former commander and officer of John D. Sudduth American Legion Post 72 in Warrenton, where he had enjoyed working with choosing Boy’s State representatives and working with the Boy’s State event each year.
Survivors include his wife, Gloria E. Buck; his four children, Sherri Buck Harris of Staunton, Katherine Buck James of Gulf Breeze, Fla., Billy Buck of Stoneridge and Cynthia Buck Gamble of King George; three grandchildren, Holly Cheng, Cody Austin Harris and Ryan Edward Buck, and two great grandchildren, Syndoah Harris and Kai Cheng.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Miriam Nyman.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 26, at Our Saviour Lutheran Church near Warrenton.
