William Hunt Cheatwood, 88, of Warrenton, passed away on January 31, 2018 at his home.
He was born on September 6, 1929, in Fauquier County, to the late Brackenridge William Cheatwood and Lena Jane Botts Cheatwood.
Mr. Cheatwood was a veteran of the Korean Conflict, serving in the U.S. Navy. He retired from the federal government’s Warrenton Training Center after many years of service. He served 35 years — from 1978 through 2013 — as a member of the Warrenton Planning Commission. He also served on the town Board of Zoning Appeals and as a Rappahannock-Rapidan Planning District Commission board member. The Warrenton Town Council in January 2014 presented Mr. Cheatwood with a resolution honoring his government service
. He enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening and was well-loved by all.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Annie Mae Cheatwood; his sister, Ada Clark, and his granddaughter, Annie Rose Cheatwood Pisch.
Survivors include two children, John Marshall Cheatwood and wife Sarah and Paula Cheatwood; three grandchildren, John Marshall Massie Cheatwood, Brooke Roberts Massie Cheatwood and Sallie Hunter Cheatwood Pisch and husband Charley.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Feb. 5, at Moser Funeral Home in Warrenton. The service will take place at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Feb.6, at the funeral home.
