Willie Avant Jones Jr., 94, of Warrenton, passed away on Sept. 3, 2017, at his home.
He was born Sept. 1, 1923, in Wilmington, N.C., to the late Willie A. Jones Sr. and Nellie Harker Jones.
Mr. Jones was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U. S. Army, and then worked for Standard Oil Co. In 1950, he graduated from the College of William and Mary. He worked for the D.C. Court of General Sessions for a number of years and then worked in retail and sold real estate. As a young man he enjoyed sailing, and in his later years enjoyed traveling and was an avid reader.
Survivors include his wife, Margaret Doyle Jones; four children, Karen Jones of Dumfries, David Jones and wife Veronica of Austin, Texas, Mark Jones and Sheila of Arlington and Keith Jones of Warrenton, and four grandchildren, Madeline Jones, Kate Jones, Ava Jones and Fiona Jones.
The family will receive friends at from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 10, at Moser Funeral Home in Warrenton. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 11, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Warrenton. Interment will follow at Culpeper National Cemetery in the new section.
