Virgie Martha Elizabeth Pullen Garrison, 92, of Amissville, went home to be with the Lord on Monday morning, Dec. 11, 2017.
She was born on May 27, 1925, in Rappahannock County, to the late Bertha and Thomas Pullen and was one of 13 children.
Mrs. Garrison was a member of Amissville Full Gospel Church and had worked many years in a landscaping/sodding business that she and her husband started. She also had a carpet cleaning business with daughter, Betty, and had worked with Lorraine and Joyce in their respective flooring businesses until age 82.
She was always known as “one of the most hard-working women” you would ever meet. Mrs. Garrison was kind, loving and generous. She devoted her life to her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, as she was widowed for more than 50 years.
After suffering a stroke almost 10 years ago, she became less mobile.
Survivors include three daughters, Lorraine H. Early of Amissville; Joyce Shaw and husband Russell of Stafford and Betty Mills Moore and husband Don of Rixeyville; two sons, Arthur Garrison and wife Carey of Rixeyville and John Thomas Garrison of Front Royal; a daughter-in-law, Susan Garrison of Martinsburg, W.Va.; a brother, Wilbert J. Pullen of Manassas; 10 grandchildren, and numerous great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Homer L. Garrison; her son, Homer Lee “Sonny” Garrison; 11 of her siblings, and two grandsons, John Early Jr. and Melvin Early.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 14, at Moser Funeral Home in Warrenton. Pastor James Pittman will conduct the service at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Dec. 14, at the funeral home. Interment will take place at Hillcrest Memory Gardens near Jeffersonton.
