Donald Hannan McClure, 77, died at his home in Orlean surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday, May 30, 2017.
He was born April 7, 1940, in Kansas City, Mo. After his retirement as a pilot for Eastern Airlines, Mr. McClure continued his lifelong passion for air safety at the Air Line Pilots Association, where he remained employed until his death.
Throughout his life, Mr. McClure volunteered his time and support in many different areas, including youth sports, the Orlean Volunteer Fire Department, and was one of the original founders of the Flying Circus Aerodrome near Bealeton.
He was well known by his son Steven’s teammates from youth league through college as the unofficial team photographer. Mr. McClure always had his camera in hand and designated Steven as the delivery boy to distribute prints to his subjects of all the special moments he had captured.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Donna D. McClure; a son, Steven and wife Terri and their children, Wyatt and Garrett Carroll; a brother, Brett Sharretts and wife Jeanne; a sister, Brooke Sharretts, and a daughter, Diana Cooney and husband Michael.
He was preceded in death by his parents; Dr. James and Harriet Hannan McClure; his guardians, Amos and Louise Sharretts, and a sister, Blakie Sharretts Miller.
A memorial service will take place at 11 a.m. Friday, June 9, at Moser Funeral Home in Warrenton.
