William Edgar “Bill” Glenz, 92, of Sumerduck, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 19, 2018, at Fauquier Hospital.
Bill was born in the Bronx, New York, to the late William and Catherine Glenz.
Bill lived in Bronx, New York, and after graduation he was enlisted in to the U.S. Army as a PFC in Headquarters Co., 2nd Bat, 290 INF, where he served during World War II from November of 1944 to April of 1946, participating in the Ardennes, Central Europe and Rhineland campaigns. He earned the European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal and the Word War II Victory Medal.
Bill worked for the U.S. Postal Service as a letter carrier from 1947 to 1980. He married Joan Stackpole on April 7, 1956, and they lived in North Babylon, New York. After retirement he and his wife, moved to Garden City, South Carolina. In 2016, he moved to Sumerduck to live with his son and daughter-in-law. Bill was a member of the Sumerduck Ruritan Club.
He is survived by his two children, William G. Glenz and his wife Lettie of Sumerduck, and Geralyn Welsh and her husband Kenneth of Venice, Florida; four grandchildren, Ryan Welsh and his wife Jen, Brenden Welsh, Kimberly Campbell and her husband Chris and Eric Pugh and his wife Allison, and seven great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Joan V. Glenz in 2000.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, August 23, Moser Funeral Home in Warrenton. A Mass of Christian burial will be offered at 11 a.m. Friday, August 24, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Warrenton. Bill will be buried Monday, August 27, with his wife at Florence National Cemetery in South Carolina.
