After the president’s Jan. 8 address, how long will the government shutdown continue?

In his first Oval Office speech to the nation, President Trump called the Mexican border situation a crisis and vowed to keep some federal agencies closed until Congress provides $5.7 million for a wall to improve national security. The shutdown of some government agencies, with a total of 800,000 employees, started Dec. 22 because their funding stopped.

JUST IN...… "WASHINGTON - Congressional leaders and President Donald Trump reached a tentative deal on Friday to reopen the U.S. government for three weeks and leave Trump's $5.7 billion request for a wall along the Mexican border to later talks."

If you don't have a clearance S/TS and have never worked for an LE or defense agency of the Federal Government then your only source for what you perceive as a threat to the US and it's citizens is based on the media. Not all Federal agencies cleared or not receive National Security briefings and I can assure you the media does not have a clue as to the real threats. I can answer yes to all of the criteria, be vigilant......

The Secret Service isn't getting paid during this shutdown, and they put their lives on the line every day for the Trump family.

Agree 100%! Problem is, Trump cannot stomach "losing" to the Democrats on this issue. Funding the remaining federal departments currently in limbo is the correct approach, followed by a truly constructive (and reasonable) dialogue regarding enhancing border security by a variety of means. At issue, of course, is Trump's temper tantrums and his need to "win, win, win" at all costs...SAD!

Trump's Shutdown can end very soon if he just agrees to signing legislation funding the bulk of the government and negotiating in good faith with Congress to get most of what he wants re: His Wall. He undercuts people in his own party and administration. His so-called "base" is not enough to get him re-elected. He needs support from outside and he alienates it every day. Crazy. His non-action and raging tantrums pose a real danger to national security.

Herr Trump is beginning to lose the support of his "crazed base" and therefore MUST win the southern border battle with the Democrats in order to gin up his base for the 2020 election cycle. This despot/tyrant will do anything (including fabricating the truth) to deflect any responsibility for the current shutdown; i.e., holding federal workers hostage for his "big and beautiful wall" that Mexico was supposed to pay for. His current BIG problem is that he has met his match with Speaker Pelosi. Herr Trump will not be able to push Nancy Pelosi aside in order to get his way! What an embarrassment he is as president!
