Does the federal government’s blanket collection of phone call and Internet information concern you?

Citizens learned this week that the National Security Agency collects “a vast trove” of electronic information in the effort to stop terrorism.

Common Sense

Any idiot who gets on those sites like Facebook, Twitter and who knows what, ... you put your entire private lives out there for anyone to see - pictures of your family, post everything you do in life... the government doesn't have to monitor you, because you're all monitoring each other for the government with those websites !! and your cell phones are nothing but tracking devices. people have no common sense !!!!

I've had a "feeling" that monitoring of this nature was going on and so, for some time, I've tried to do odd things when writing emails such as not mention certain words, or leave off final letters of governmental agencies, etc. I doubt it was of much help. I'm naturally suspicious of gov't because of my familiarity with how things worked during the days of the USSR. I wont' tell that story now. But suffice to say if I wrote letters to someone there, we did things like number the letters and so on. Once I sent a gift and wrote a note to customs in French instead of Russian or English because I felt the gift (50 Bibles my church was donating to a village in Siberia) was so precious. I felt writing a note in French would intimidate them and also - make them more likely to soften their hearts. The Bibles got through to a remote area above Vladivostok and nothing was stolen. So I tend to realize that governments don't always tell us the truth and that people working in certain areas (postal in old USSR) and so on, might not deliver but steal it all. Bibles actually were in high demand in those days.

It concerns me a great deal! With the government monitoring of my e-mail they can figure out my political affiliation, which might result getting the IRS on my back. Or, I will be targeted to make contributions to a political party. This tactic was already applied by the Obama campaign during the past election. Imagine this would have been reported during the Bush administration...!?
