The state is just looking to make more money and the town of warrenton wants to rent/lease the space. That is what it all comes down too.An abc store in old town warrenton will probably look out of place and probably wont do well due to parking issues. Oh and for you bar/restaurant owners it will take business from you all as well.Think about it ........

Demosthenes - Regular basis versus occasionally. Do I have to spell everything out to prevent being called dishonest? We've lived here for over 30 years, been to many of the shops in Old Town, many now long gone, miss the Cardinal Cafe and Rhodes Drug Store.

Oh wait a sec Melrose. You were just saying that you only go to the Post Office, Library and Red Truck. Why the dishonesty? We do have a nice little Old Town. I'm glad you have been to a lot of our shops.

Melrose - Yes to most of that. And you are right, Sibby's is pretty awesome.

As others have said, it isn't the liquor store I'm against as much as the parking problem. While I live in Culpeper County, I used to do a lot more shopping in Warrenton than I do now. The parking situation is absolutely horrendous. In fact, although we used to enjoy the Xmas parade et al, really got tired of having to park more than a mile away & walk to town in the dark. It was ridiculous, & we pretty much don't bother with Warrenton anymore unless we can shop or dine there at a really off hour.

Demosthenes - Since you brought up Divine Swine, we bought a pound of brisket to take home that was almost all fat, and expensive. Prefer to buy our brisket at Sibby's, another place in Old Town. Been there?

Demosthenes - I know about the Divine Swine, Gateau Bakery Cafe & Tea Room, Haute Cakes Pastry Shop, Warrenton Wellness Kitchen & Cooking School, Ciao Bella Celebrations Cafe and Venue, and have visited all of them. How about you?

The type of store is not an issue, parking is and I avoid shopping on main street if I have a choice due to the lack of parking, will there be double parking while people run into the ABC store?

Melrose - Warrenton doesn't have the Whole Ox, but near the courthouse you do have the option to buy meats at Divine Swine Deli. Maybe you should focus less on parking right outside of the couple of places you visit and walk around a bit next time!

What would a liquor store add to Main Street? Closer to the jail is the only good I see coming of it.

A deli where you can buy sliced meats and cheeses, like the Whole Ox in Marshall makes more sense to me, but I only go to the Library, the Post Office, and occasionally Red Truck Bakery due to lack of parking.

What is the positive to this , is it really to far from the one already in Warrenton , next to Safeway ? I'm a drinker , but see no positives here , there is already little or no parking in the main town area . Will this help our tax base ? Costco would have , but we seem to run out the things that generate jobs, tax base & infrastructure ???? I have spent my entire life in the residential construction , so I'm also pro building , but with that said I'm also anti density , yet they keep approving 1 subdivision after another , with no help on roads . UGH , Rant over

Just what main street needs..another supplier for the beer joints that have recently crppoed up there. Already you can barely walk by these "restaurants" without having to go off the sidewalk to avoid the drunks and their pitiful dogs congregating outside the establishment's doors. There is a Virginia ABC store less than 2 miles away...why on Earth would there be a need for another one on Main? Unless of course there is an overt need to attract vagrants, drunkards, and criminals to an area that already has more than their fair share of each!

Initially, I was completely against the idea of having a liquor store on Main Street because of the negative connotations connected with such businesses. However, Warrenton has numerous shops that openly sell a seemingly countless variety of wines and beers and these businesses are eagerly promoted as beneficial to the town's economy and tourism so maybe having an ABC store on Main Street is not such a big deal.
