Eight members of Fauquier’s wrestling team earned medals at the Group AA state championships last weekend in Salem.
Seniors Bennett Payne and Evan Oddenino led the Falcons with second-place finishes in their weight classifications.

Payne was pinned by Poquoson’s Jeffrey Ogburn 2:41 into the 126-pound title match.
In the 285-pound championship, Oddenino fell by 6-3 decision to Mike Jones of Lord Botetourt. Jones completed an undefeated season with the win.
The Falcons’ 81 team points was good for fifth in team standings behind 11-time champion Christiansburg (205), Brookville (123.5), New Kent (119) and Millbrook (103).
The top eight finishers earned medals in each weight class. Fauquier’s medalists are:

126 — Bennett Payne (2nd)
138 — Tyler Budd (4th)
145 — Landon Dean (8th)
152 — Jake Raines (7th)
170 — Max Strum (7th)
