Fauquier’s population growth has eased to a pace even slower than county officials projected.
The county added 577 residents between the last U.S. Census on April 1, 2010, and July 1, 2011, according to the latest estimate.

That reflects population growth of 0.9 percent over 15 months.
Fauquier’s comprehensive plan projects an annual increase of 1.2 percent.
The latest estimate comes from the Weldon Cooper Center for Public Service at the University of Virginia.
State government uses the population estimates to apportion funds for transportation, public education and other services.
Weldon Cooper demographers use births, deaths, housing stock, school enrollment, drivers’ licenses and other statistics to provide population estimates between U.S. Census Bureau’s official counts every 10 years.
The estimates have a margin of error of 6.28 percent, plus or minus, according to Weldon Cooper.
During the same 15-month period, Virginia’s population grew 1.2 percent to 8,096,604. The state added 95,580 residents, demographers estimate.
Some of Fauquier’s neighbors continued to grow rapidly:
• Loudoun County’s population increased 3.9 percent to 324,337.
• Prince William, up 3.1 percent to 424,532.
• Stafford, up 1.6 percent to 131,067.
