First responders summoned a medical helicopter, but the crew couldn’t find a suitable landing area near the Jamison’s Farm subdivision, according to emergency radio traffic.
An ambulance took the young driver to Fauquier Hospital.
The teenager, from Harper's Ferry, W.Va., suffered injuries to her right leg and foot, sheriff's Lt. James Hartman said. She also faded in and out of consciousness, according to emergency radio conversations.
The driver told a sheriff's deputy that she was using a can of compressed air to clean the car's console, when she drifted off the right side of the highway, Lt. Hartman said. The deputy did find a can of compressed air in the car, he added.
Authorities charged her with failing to maintain proper control of the vehicle, Lt. Hartman said.
Sheriff’s deputies stopped traffic just after 11 a.m. But, by 11:30, the road reopened.
