Lenten Season at Remington United Methodist Church

The community is invited to join the congregation at Remington United Methodist Church on Ash Wednesday, February 22. A simple soup meal will be served at 6 p.m. followed by a service of imposition of ashes at 7 p.m. Throughout the Lenten Season, RUMC will serve a soup meal at 6 p.m. every Wednesday in the social hall, followed by a contemplative Taize prayer service at 7 p.m.

For America Chapter Leader will give a powerpoint program on militant Islam in America from the driving ideology to accommodation of the Muslim Brotherhood by the highest levels of government. The speaker has taken intensive classes from the Strategic Engagement Group, attended seminars and presented this program for several years in Virginia and New England. The program starts with the Qur'anic background, Sharia law and the Muslim Brotherhood in the US and then shows the infiltration into our political, educational and religious institutions. This is a political-legal threat that we need to counter with political action at the local, state and federal levels. It is not a matter of religion. Religion and “Interfaith Outreach” are used as tools to subvert our institutions. While most people are generally aware of overt terrorism, they often are not acquainted with the underlying driving ideology. This program fills that void. Bring your questions and come ready for lively discussion!

Come enjoy the 87th running of the world famous Virginia Gold Cup steeplechase race, Saturday, May 5, 2012 at Great Meadow in The Plains, Virginia. The Virginia Gold Cup is a grand spring tradition as well as a fixture on the social calendar. Run in Fauquier County since 1922 and attended by over 50,000 spectators, this race is one of the largest and most popular sporting events in the greater Washington metropolitan area. Race day features six hurdle and timber horses races, Jack Russell Terrier races, tent, tailgate and hat contests, and vendor booths for shopping. Ticket sales benefit the Great Meadow Foundation, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to the preservation of Great Meadow's open space for community access.
