Beginning June 3 at 6 p.m., historic Main Street in Old Town Warrenton will be closed the first Friday of every month through October and converted into a pedestrian park where shops will stay open late, live music will play and local food and beer will be served.

On Tuesday, the Town Council unanimously approved Experience Old Town Warrenton’s special event request to begin holding “1st Fridays” again. Each 1st Friday event will occur between 3rd and 5th streets. Each event will be themed and include a beer garden and live music. A food truck will be present near the 5th Street intersection.

“There will be some major changes to the event as we adapt to the weekend street closures,” John McAuliffe, board chairman for Experience Old Town Warrenton, told FauquierNow. “First, the event will be focused on 3rd to 5th Streets, and selected vendors will be community-focused organizations in the area and activities based.”

McAuliffe said the goal of the series is to lift up the local merchant community.

First Fridays will go from June through October on the first Friday of the month, except July when it will be on July 8.

The following dates and themes were requested:

-June 3 - Summer celebration
-July 8 - American celebration
-Aug. 5 - Back to school
-Sept. 2 - Dog Days
-Oct. 7- Harvest celebration

Those interested in playing music or volunteering at 1st Friday should email .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address)

Anyone who wants to be a vendor can apply through Old Town Warrrenton’s website at oldtownwarrenton.org/1st-friday.
