5 Friday Fauquier factoids: Cash for governor’s race


Total contributions from Fauquier residents and businesses to the major party candidates’ campaigns for governor.

Terry McAuliffe (D) has received $185,811 from 74 Fauquier donors as of July 15, according to the Virginia Public Access Project, including:

• $105,000 from Roger W. Sant of The Plains.

• $10,000 from Alan L. Wurtzel of Delaplane.

• $8,500 from John “Til” Hazel Jr. of Broad Run.

Glenn Youngkin (R) has received $89,785 from 20 Fauquier donors, VPAP reported.

• $50,000 from Melanie Hitchen.

• $20,000 from Holtzman Vogel Josefiak Torchinsky PLLC, a law firm in Warrenton. State Sen. Jill Holtzman Vogel (R-27th/Upperville) and husband Alexander N. Vogel also gave $2,500 each to the Youngkin campaign.


Students have completed heavy equipment operator training program at Lord Fairfax Community College’s Vint Hill center.

The program uses simulators for hands-on instruction and guarantees graduates interviews with local construction companies.


Miles, the approximate total of unpaved roads in Fauquier, according to the county Comprehensive Plan’s Transportation Chapter, adopted in 2017.

The county in 2014 had 104.7 miles of state-designated primary roads and 815 miles of paved secondary roads. About 22.5 miles of Interstate 66 run through Fauquier.


The number of farm silos in Fauquier, according to Commissioner of Revenue Eric Maybach.

For tax purposes, the commissioner’s office maintains a detailed inventory of every land parcel and structure in Fauquier.


The number of work sessions the Warrenton Planning Commission conducted in 2020, according to its annual report.

The appointed commission’s schedule intensified last year as it work on the town’s 2040 Comprehensive Plan, which the town council adopted in April.

The commission in 2020 also conducted 9 public hearings.

The Warrenton Community Development Department last year received 927 permit applications and the town Architectural Review Board issued 120 certificates of appropriateness for construction in the historic district, according to the report.
