5 Friday Fauquier factoids: DUI arrests by deputies

Fauquier County sheriff’s deputies have made 112 driving under the influence arrests so far this year.

Driving under the influence arrests that Fauquier sheriff’s deputies had made this year, as of Friday morning.

Lee District had the most at 33 and Center District, most of which Warrenton police patrol, had 10.

Additionally, Virginia State Police and the Remington police also make DUI arrests in Fauquier.


Parking tickets new Town of Warrenton Enforcement Officer Lea Pagliuca has issued from Aug. 5 to Wednesday, according to interim Police Chief Tim Carter.

Ms. Pagliuca started the job July 29. Working four days and 29 hours per week, she earns $20 an hour.

First-time violators get a warning. The second and third tickets issued carry fines of $10 and $25, respectively. All subsequent tickets carry a $50 fine.

The town collected $6,495 in parking ticket fines during fiscal 2019, which ended June 30.


Estimated number of pumpkins Meadows Farms at New Baltimore expects to sell this fall, according to nursery Manager Kevin Coldren.

Meadows charges 69 cent per pound for pumpkins, which typically weigh 15 to 20 pounds, Mr. Coldren said.

Varieties include traditional orange pumpkins and “more funky types,” including green and blue, he said.


More students had enrolled in Fauquier County Public Schools as of Sept. 9 compared to the same day last year.

The county’s 20 public schools had 11,148 students on that day this year. Last year, the total stood at 11,106.

Expecting a slight increase, administrators will count “fall membership” on Sept. 30.

Last year, fall membership stood at 11,153 and it 2017, it totaled 11,063.

16.4 percent

Of Fauquier residents are 65 or older, according to the U.S. Census Bureau’s most recent estimate on July 1, 2018.

Statewide, it stands at 15.4 percent, versus 16 percent nationwide.
