5 Friday Fauquier factoids: Hard cider a hot seller

Gallons that the Wild Hare Cider Pub & Garden sold during its opening weekend in Warrenton, May 17 to 19, according to owner Jim Madaj.

The pub at 63 Main St. features six different flavored, apple-based hard ciders on tap — including a new one each week. It also sells the fermented beverages in bottles, cans and growlers.

The family-owned company, which also operates a pub in Leesburg, produces cider at a plant in Clarke County.


Special education students, including 92 with intellectual disabilities, in the Fauquier school system as of December.

They represent 14.7 percent of the system’s enrollment, which totaled 11,234 students at the end of March.


The number of Realtors and affiliate members who belong to the Greater Piedmont Realtors, headquartered in Warrenton.

Those members come from Fauquier, Culpeper, Madison and Rappahannock counties. They pay about $300 each in annual dues, plus fees to the national organization for Realtors.

The organization focuses on education, ethics, government affairs and community service.

Dave Wills, the manager of Long & Foster’s office in Warrenton, serves this year as president of the local organization’s 15-member board.


The number of open jobs in Fauquier County government agencies and public schools listed Friday morning.

The positions range from parks department gate attendant, paying a minimum of $8.53 an hour, to a payroll manager in the human resources department with a minimum salary of $63,316.

The jobs include a senior planner in community development, part-time high school sports coaches, full-time teachers, substitute teachers, park laborers, bus drivers and substitute teachers.

The number of building permits the Town of Warrenton Community Development Department issued in April.

Also last month the department:

• Issued 21 zoning permits.

• Received three applications for certificates of appropriateness from the Architectural Review Board, which has purview over construction, renovation and demolition in the historic district.

• Conducted 13 fire safety inspects at the request of business owners.
