Best Bets: Bluegrass and summer blooms workshop

Weekend options in Fauquier include a bluegrass concert in downtown Warrenton, a “Summer Blooms” workshop at Sky Meadows State Park and an indoor cornhole tournament at the Remington Lions Club.

Summer Blooms Workshop
10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, July 24

Shenandoah Chapter Virginia Master Naturalist Paul Guay will lead the workshop. It will begin in the park's Carriage Barn with a presentation on summer blooming flowers, their associated pollinators, tips and tricks to their identification. A 3-mile guided hike through the park’s flower-filled meadows will culminate at the Piedmont Environmental Council’s Memorial Overlook, a hot spot for a diversity of summer blooms. Participants should bring water and lunch to eat along the trail, dress appropriately and wear sturdy shoes. Fee: $15 per adult, $5 per child (12 and younger. Fee includes parking.

Indoor tournament, cohosted by the Liberty High School Boosters and the Remington Lions Club. Team registration has closed. Beer and food sold onsite. Free kids’ activities.

Three matches starting at 6 p.m., 7 p.m. and 8 p.m. Tailgating and children’s games. “Denim & Diamonds” theme. VIP options available.

Summer on the Green Concert
Circa Blue

The four-decade tradition of summer concerts in Old Town Warrenton has resumed after a year off because of the pandemic. A five-member contemporary bluegrass band, Cira Blue will continue a four-concert series, organized by the Allegro Community School for the Arts. The Town of Warrenton and the Virginia Commission for the Arts provide financial support. Main Street closed to vehicles for the evening. Free.
