Best Bets: The Plains music, “J.C. Superstar” on stage

Weekend options in Fauquier include two performances in the extended run of Jesus Christ Superstar at the Fauquier Community Theatre, Music in The Plains Day, a couple of bluegrass concerts, opportunities to explore nature and an open house at the New Baltimore volunteer fire/rescue station.

“Jesus Christ Superstar”
7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Oct. 1-2
Fauquier Community Theatre
4225 Aiken Drive, Vint Hill

The theatre has added two performances to its 2021-22 season opener, the rock opera based on the last week of Jesus’ life. With lyrics by Tim Rice and music by Andrew Lloyd Webber, Jesus Christ Superstar debuted 50 years ago. Tickets are $18 for students, $20 for seniors and $22 for adults. Audience members must wear masks and seating will be limited.

50th Anniversary Open House
New Baltimore Volunteer Fire & Rescue

9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
6550 Riley Road, Warrenton

Celebrating a half-century of service, the volunteer company will host fire and public safety exhibits, including AirCare medical helicopter, children’s activities and a vehicle extrication demonstration. Free.

Fall Farm Days
11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 2-3
Sky Meadows State Park
11012 Edmonds Lane, Delaplane

The event will feature a variety of nature-themed activities, a children’s play area, live music and Mount Bleak House Tours. Parking fee: $10.

Music in The Plains Day
Noon Saturday, Oct. 2
All around town, The Plains

Plains Community League Saturday the second annual event, with five outdoor musical performances around town. The music starts at noon with Nova Voce and concludes with the First Baptist Gospel Church Choir at 6 p.m. Kid Sister, Jamie & Amy Potter and Jiamie Pyles & Henry Rust also will perform. Free.

The Country Gentlemen Tribute Band
6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 2
Marshall Community Center
4133 Rectortown Road, Marshall

Flatbeds and Tailfins hosts the five-member group that performs bluegrass in the tradition of the well-known band. Tickets: $20 in advance and $25 at the door. Children 3 and younger get in free. Snacks and bottled water available for purchase.

Nature Club
1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 2
The Clifton Institute
6712 Blantyre Road, Warrenton

For youth in Grades 6-12, the event will highlight plants and animals on the 900-acre preserve. Drop-off only program. Cost: $10 ($8 for Friends of Clifton).

Just Wingin’ It Bluegrass
4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 3
Northern Fauquier Community Park Amphitheatre
4155 Monroe Parkway, Marshall

Flatbeds and Tailfins will host the outdoor concert. Amphitheatre gate open at 3 p.m. Snacks and bottled water for sale. Tickets: $15 at the gate, free for children 3 and younger.
