Wednesday morning COVID-19 update from the Virginia Department of Health:

545 total cases in Fauquier County since the pandemic began — up 9 from Tuesday.

80,393 Virginia cases — up 1,022 since Tuesday. The total includes 77,380 confirmed and 3,013 “probable” infections.

2,051 deaths statewide — up 3 from Tuesday. Of the fatalities, the health department classified COVID-19 as the confirmed cause in 1,948 and “probable” in 103.

951,174 diagnostic tests statewide — up 14,026 since Tuesday. Over the past seven days, 7.9 percent of those tests were positive, trending upward.

Statewide hospitalizations for COVID-19 over the course of the pandemic totaled 7,351 as of Wednesday, up 84 since Tuesday.

But, the health department notes that its hospitalization figure — based on status at the time each case gets investigated — “underrepresents” the actual total.

Since the pandemic began, 10,331 “confirmed COVID-19 patients have been hospitalized and discharged,” according to the Virginia Hospital and Healthcare Association.

State hospitals housed 1,157 infected patients Wednesday — down 32, according to the association.

That puts total Virginia hospitalizations during the pandemic at 11,488.

Virginia hospitalizations for COVID-19 peaked at 1,625 patients on May 8.

Healthcare providers and laboratories report statistics to the state as of 5 p.m. each day. The health department updates its report the following morning.

Thirty-two infected Fauquier patients have been hospitalized and 8 have died since the pandemic started.

In the Rappahannock-Rapidan Health District, which includes Fauquier:

• 912 cases, 71 hospitalizations and 12 deaths in Culpeper.

• 187 infections, 16 hospitalizations and 3 deaths in Orange.

• 52 infections, 5 hospitalizations and 1 death in Madison.

• 36 cases and 4 hospitalizations and 1 death in Rappahannock.

The district has 25 COVID-19 deaths, and 128 infected patients have been hospitalized during the pandemic.

The health department reported 18,312 diagnostic tests in the district so far, up 186 from Tuesday. Over the last seven days, 3.9 percent of tests conducted in the five-county district were positive, trending downward.

I've noticed that counties in other parts of the country publish their number of active cases. Does Fauquier, or the health district, have a record of the number of active cases? If so, why aren't they provided?
