Virginia Democrats and allied voters will select the party’s nominees for governor, lieutenant governor and state attorney general in a primary election Tuesday, June 8.

The polls Fauquier and across Virginia will be open from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m.

In Fauquier, 449 voters cast early ballots, starting April 23.

General Registrar Alex Ables predicted about 7 percent of Fauquier’s 52,362 registered voters would participate in the primary. That would produce about 3,600 votes.

Terry McAuliffe on Tuesday will seek a return to the governor’s race. Mr. McAuliffe served from 2014 to ’18 but could not run for a second consecutive term because of Virginia’s constitution.

He faces four challengers for the nomination:

Del. Lee Carter

Lt. Gov. Justin Fairfax

Former Del. Jennifer Caroll Foy

State Sen. Jennifer McClellan

Lieutenant Governor Candidates

Del. Hala S. Ayala

Del. Sam Rasoul

Andria McClellan

Sean Perryman

Del. Mark H. Levine

Xavier Warren

Attorney General Candidates

Mark R. Herring

Jerrauld C. “Jay” Jones

Del. Elizabeth Guzman faces three challengers for the Democratic nomination in the 31st House of Delegates district, that includes part of Fauquier.

Republicans last month selected their statewide candidates at a distributed convention around Virginia:

Glenn Youngkin for governor.

Winsome Sears for lieutenant governor.

Jayson Miyares for attorney general.
