An off-duty Fauquier County sheriff’s deputy suffered serious injuries Monday morning in a traffic accident just south of Warrenton.
A medical helicopter flew Deputy John Thomas to Inova Fairfax Hospital after the crash at 9:05 a.m. on southbound Routes 15/17/29 at Lovers Lane, Sgt. Steve Lewis said in a press release.
“During the investigation, deputies learned that a 2017 Dodge Caravan was making a left turn from (northbound) James Madison Highway onto Lovers Lane,” Sgt. Lewis said. “The Dodge Caravan struck a 2011 Jeep Liberty travelling southbound, causing that vehicle to go off the roadway.”
Deputy Thomas drove the Jeep and Betty Chadwell,84, of Sumerduck, drove the Dodge minivan.
Ms. Chadwell, who received medical treatment at Fauquier Hospital, faces charges of failing to yield the right-of-way and failing to wear a seatbelt, Sgt. Lewis said.
