The response to the Fauquier County Republican Committee’s campaign office in downtown Warrenton took him aback.

“We are kind of actually blown away by the excitement about having the location, about the degree to which folks are coming in, sharing their excitement,” FCRC Chairman Greg Schumacher said. “It’s palpable. It’s markedly and discernibly greater” than four years ago.

Mr. Schumacher, 68, thinks he knows why.

“There is a real sense from our side” that the outcome of the presidential contest has “existential” implications for the country, the retired Army major general said.

While to a degree the election may be “about Trump the personality or Biden the personality, it’s really about two very distinct and alternative visions for the future of America,” said Mr. Schumacher, who lives near The Plains. “And it’s clear, from the Democratic side, it’s tilting toward socialism and Marxism — so different from the founding principles of our country.”

Opened in early August, the 1,200-foot office at 37 Main St. has experienced a steady flow of party loyalists who have scooped up candidate literature and bought an array of campaign-branded items, including hats, banners, yard signs, shirts, socks, bottle and can koozies, dog collars and bumper stickers.

Trump flags ($20) probably rank No. 1 among them all, Mr. Schumacher said.

“They’ve been a huge seller,” he said. “We’ve had a lot of college students going back to decorate their dorm rooms.”

Other big sellers include Trump hats, Trump t-shirts and “the general patriotic shirts,” Mr. Schumacher said.

Hats cost $20 and shirts $25 apiece.

“We can’t keep the stuff in stock,” said Nancy Blanchard, a headquarters’ volunteer. “Every day we’re making more orders.”

But they do so within reason, Mr. Schumacher said.

“Trump’s not running again,” he said. “You don’t want to be stuck with a large quantity. So, we try to be judicious about re-ordering. The more generic, patriotic things — you can afford to have more of that in hand.”

The committee doesn’t charge fixed amounts for them but rather “suggested” donations — a system that so far has worked smoothly, Mr. Schumacher said.

“We’ve not run into anybody bickering about the suggested donation price.”

He declined to discuss how much the committee pays for campaign items or the amount of revenue they’ve generated.

“We don’t want to get into what our fiscal data is and what not,” Mr. Schumacher said. “Let’s just say that we’re finding it, with the excitement and volume, it’s been a surprise.”

The committee asks “a little more than what we paid for” items, “with the hope of helping to finance things like a headquarters,” the chairman explained.

He also declined to say how much the group pays to rent the Main Street storefront, which the committee will operate through Election Day.

Waiting for his wife Sindy to complete her shift at the Walmart bakery, Kenneth Shumaker, 31, discovered the headquarters Saturday morning.

“I was just out, walking, and saw it,” said Mr. Shumaker, a utility line locator for UtiliQuest who lives in Spotsylvania County. “And I thought, ‘Cool’.”

Paying $25, he bought a t-shirt for himself that has number 45 on the front, with a small number next to the number 5, signifying a second term for President Trump.

Mr. Shumaker later that day treated his wife to the same shirt.

“It was a surprise,” Mrs. Shumaker said. “I like it.”

Adam Diaz, 43, and his family, who lives near Warrenton, stopped at the sidewalk table of campaign items outside the headquarters.

Mr. Diaz, who owns Dream Deck Fence Patio of Warrenton, paid $64 for a Trump-Pence yard sign, Trump t-shirt, Trump socks and drink koozies.

“I think it’s good to display your support,” he said. “The Democrats do a great job of always expressing their views and opinions. And I feel like the Republicans are a little shyer.

“So, it’s nice to be proud of your party, proud of your principles and beliefs and be proud of your presidential candidate.”

Because of the coronavirus pandemic, the Fauquier County Democratic Committee “will not be opening a campaign office this year,” Co-Chairperson Whitney Petrilli said in an email. “We are doing everything virtually.”

Donkey has no idea what he is talking about. I have family in the Midwest, and no they do NOT love Trump, as a matter of fact they are pretty PISS** Off.

Stop pretending you KNOW any farmers or KNOW ANYTHING, it's boring reading your drivel.
farmbum · September 24, 2020 at 7:05 am
DF you really should get serious. 200k + dead Americans under the current administration (that includes Democrats, Republicans and Independents) is nothing to joke about.

The death rates in the mid-west to west are on the uptick.

Farmers have received tax payer subsidiaries from the current administration in the billions due to the trade/tariff issues brought on by the current administration.

You really should take a more serious approach in what you write and think.
DonkeyFarmer · September 23, 2020 at 10:46 pm
Farmers are all voting for Trump. Every single farmer. All the dead from covid are in Democrat States. Idiot Democrats put covid positive into nursing homes. Farmers love Trump.
farmbum · September 23, 2020 at 7:40 am
200k dead Americans and counting. Try and get a test result in under 24 hours, try and get an N95 mask. Try and figure out a National Strategy for tracking and containment.
Since 2016, over 1 trillion dollars in Government budget spending has been added.
Relief packages for trade issues - billions to farmers.
Relief packages for Puerto Rico - billions of dollars. Ask yourself when that Hurricane hit?
Another trillion dollar stimulus package in the works. Ask yourself why is it needed if the economy is opening and the virus is going away.

America is losing.
DonkeyFarmer · September 23, 2020 at 12:36 am
Angry leftists. LOL. Melting down. Nobody even responds to you anymore.

Orange man Bad! Bunch of children.

Supreme Court 6-3

You lost.

Next year 2021 is going to be better, it can't get much worse except if Trump is reelected. Let's not let that travesty happen to our country again! Vote Blue across the board!

Jeffersonianidiot: Democrats have subverted the Constitution? You're an idiot.
Jeffersonian American · September 21, 2020 at 6:41 am
We have a constitutional republic- if we can keep it, as Benjamin Franklin once noted.

Democrats have subverted our U.S. Constitution so badly that today they are still trying to defend the indefensible.
Linda Ward · September 20, 2020 at 9:09 pm
JEFF - Let me see if I understand here. Stack the courts so that even when I'm wrong, I'm right, and there will be no punishment, and I can go about my merry way breaking the law. Yep, that's our "law and order" Trump, as long as the law is on his side and he gets to do the ordering, all is good in Trumpland. That doesn't sound like justice for all, only for a few select people who judges owe their positions to will be able to do 'whatever" they please. Putin's world!
Jeffersonian American · September 20, 2020 at 7:02 am
Of course it need not be further elaborated President Trump has earned my vote in 2016 and again in 2020, if for no other many reasons, just on the issue of judicial appointments and U.S. Supreme Court appointments from his published list of potential U.S. Supreme Court nominees. No time is this difference between the two major party candidates more critical than in our current 2020 Presidential Election. And the American electorate and the Electoral College Map revealed this critical difference on this single issue alone in the prior 2016 U.S. Presidential Election as well.
Tony Bentley · September 19, 2020 at 2:22 pm
When the election is over, can I come and get all the excess? I need to burn some trash and that would make a great fire starter.
Linda Ward · September 19, 2020 at 10:15 am
.(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) - In that case, the Republican party is just kowtowing to plain EVIL.
Linda Ward · September 19, 2020 at 10:13 am
If public libraries weren't already an established norm, there are people out there who would be declaring that they are "SOCIALIST" breeding grounds. Afraid that our country is going "socialist" then a ban on libraries should be on your agenda. Think about it, no public libraries! Gone the way of the USPS.

Be careful what you wish for.

UNFAIRANDUNBALANCED, you revealed your true ideology when you cited below how "some things in life are constant... people... pay taxes..." How conveniently you forget Adam Smith, when he wrote his landmark economic work, "Wealth of Nations" over 240 years ago, never even brought up the concept of a National Income Tax in the American colonies because he understood no truly free people would ever tolerate such an confiscatory abomination (remember- our American Patriot ancestors dumped a whole lot of tea in Boston Harbor over a lot less taxation than we are paying today). However, you and your Democrat Party continue to champion, right now and to this very day, that you are going to raise our taxes if Joe Biden gets elected U.S. President to pay for all kinds of tyranny against the American people (and the Big Government Republican Party is not without blame here as well, with their contributions to the massive deficit spending since President Dwight D. Eisenhower left office 59 years ago). President Trump's efforts to lower taxes for hard-working Americans and to grow the economy to begin to reduce the deficit may, some day, delay the inevitable collapse of the entire American House of Cards. However, that is little comfort to those of us who want to dramatically reverse the size and scope of our local, State and Federal Governments if there is to be any chance to save our American republic from the unrelenting, unforgiving Laws of Economics. President Dwight D. Eisenhower warned future generations of Americans of this danger in his 17 January 1961 Farewell Address (you may watch this very heartfelt and far-ranging 10-minute address live as originally broadcast here with the knowledge that everything General Eisenhower feared most has already come to pass):

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OyBNmecVtdU

No- Adam Smith was correct in his 1776 observations- it is not constant and never natural to pay ever-increasing levels of taxation- and no truly free people would ever tolerate such an outrageous imposition on them.

Say it loud and often: The Democrat party is now pure sick evil.

"Its crying wolf. Its a trick and those terms have lost all meaning in the 21st century."

Yep. It's like we don't even attempt to teach political science and civics anymore.

From the article:

While to a degree the election may be “about Trump the personality or Biden the personality, it’s really about two very distinct and alternative visions for the future of America,” said Mr. Schumacher, who lives near The Plains. “And it’s clear, from the Democratic side, it’s tilting toward socialism and Marxism — so different from the founding principles of our country.”

So, what about the current administration's tilt toward "authoritarianism" as evidenced by the constant inflammatory rhetoric, gas-lighting, fear-mongering, and other actions attributed to our "Dear Leader" and his boot-licking minions? It's the government of the Trump, by the Trump, and for the Trump, so help me almighty stock market and 401Ks!
badelectronics · September 18, 2020 at 12:35 pm
Truepat, thank you for those kind words. Have a great day knowing Trump is trailing by just a few points in VA. Buy more Trump stuff!!!
Truepat · September 18, 2020 at 12:05 pm
Your comments amaze me, the Republicans couldn't pay for an advertisement that would energize their base half as much as the rhetoric written here by the left, keep up the good work, VOTE!!!! 😉

"Paying $25, he bought a t-shirt for himself that has number 45 on the front, with a small number next to the number 5, signifying a second term for President Trump.

So all the money that his wife earned at the bakery, he blew on some election bling? Really? What a nice guy!

@ F & B: 13 is not an unlucky number.
badelectronics · September 18, 2020 at 11:09 am
Youcantfixstupid: You are your moniker if that is what you got out of what you call the DNC manifesto. I do believe that you are yet another what I'll refer to as a crazy person who has their frontal lobe connected to Alex Jones' feeble screed depository.

Constitutional Insurgent · September 18, 2020 at 10:54 am
@Tony - Yep. I likewise don't understand the need to spend hours...and hours of one's life to stand in line and pack a venue [or not so packed as the case may be....] just to hear a politician give the same lie-filled rant that is proffered at every stop. You're already going to vote for that candidate.....what's the point...stroke his ego?
Constitutional Insurgent · September 18, 2020 at 10:52 am
@youcantfixstupid - You're correct, because no Socialist is running for POTUS. Oh, I know.....words don't actually matter anymore. Everyone is either a Communist or a Fascist.

A willfully ignorant society gets what it deserves. In this case, we deserve either Biden or Trump.
youcantfixstupid · September 18, 2020 at 9:53 am
Why anyone would vote for socialist democrats is beyond logic. Immigrants risk their lives and the lives of their little children to get out of socialist countries. The social democrat Harris/Biden administration stated telling the American people the truth that they were going to raise taxes, reverse President Trump's tax cuts, rejoin TPP and stop fracking, regulate coal and oil out of business, re-initiate the Iranian nuclear deal, move the city homeless and junkies out to the suburbs, hire Beto to take away the second amendment and so much more. Then the private polling reveled that the American people do not want any of that and now the socialist democrat Harris/Biden administration has reversed almost every one of their original positions. But if you read the DNC manifesto, you will see it all in print. This is how socialism starts, "You either have to tell voters what you were going to do and face the prospect of losing the election, or not tell them what you were going to do and then do it once you gained power". America will never be a socialist country.
Tony Bentley · September 18, 2020 at 9:06 am
Constitutional Insurgent - Agreed. To me it's like putting bumper stickers on your car. I don't want to know your opinion while driving, just pay attention to the road. I have to say it is good to see so many Biden/Warner/Webb signs going up around the county. It's good to know that not everyone has forgotten what is important here besides their 401(k) or tax cuts.
Tony Bentley · September 18, 2020 at 9:02 am
"Trump flags ($20) probably rank No. 1 among them all, Mr. Schumacher said.

“They’ve been a huge seller,” he said. “We’ve had a lot of college students going back to decorate their dorm rooms.”

Then have to quarantine because Trump said COVID-19 was a HOAX.
Constitutional Insurgent · September 18, 2020 at 7:04 am
I've honestly never really understood the point of campaign accoutrements; does somebody think that they'll expose a would-be voter to a candidate that they didn't know about? Do people believe that seeing tacky cult of personality advertising will sway someone's vote? Or is it just an exercise in making one feel better about themselves?
Jeffersonian American · September 18, 2020 at 6:38 am
Thank you, fellow Compatriots for all of your efforts to turn the tide against the current Marxist-Communist Revolution and Raging Culture War here in Virginia- keep up the excellent offensive throughout this "Election Season" and on Election Day in defense of our original constitutional republic of our American founders, our Bill of Rights and our Virginia Declaration of Rights.

I see the few Nattering Nabobs of Negativism in our local community congregating and disparaging this overwhelmingly positive article reflecting the enthusiasm for President Donald J. Trump and the Virginia Republican candidates. This fact alone tells us our candidates are right on target and winning the fight for the hearts and minds of our fellow Fauquier citizens to save and preserve our American Way of Life.

@Donkey: "Wait until the detestable one starts drinking... he will drunkenly fall from his high horse and start slinging the most vile hatred he can muster. @DOnkeyFarmer: Here, I fixed it for you: "While Trump travels around the country bumbling over questions from anyone, I say Biden continues to hide in his basement because that is what President Trump told me to say and I am an eager parrot."
DonkeyFarmer · September 17, 2020 at 7:38 pm
While Trump travels around the country taking questions from hostile reporters, Biden continues to hide in his basement. When he does do an "interview" it is with a friendly CNN and he STILL needs a teleprompter to tell him what to say. You leftists want to elect a man with dementia to be President.
DonkeyFarmer · September 17, 2020 at 7:35 pm
You have plenty of Biden signs do you FairlyUnbalanced? And they are free, correct?

So what you are saying is you literally cannot even give away biden signs! LOL!
badelectronics · September 17, 2020 at 7:13 pm
@Maude: Give it a rest unless you've read all the comments. If you are a Trump supporter, I have nothing but love for you. Like the bible says,"Love the sinner, hate the sin."
badelectronics · September 17, 2020 at 7:11 pm
According to the VCU poll, Trump is going to get flushed down the old turd sucker like a huge toilet clogging DonkeyFarmer.

Make sure you buy as much reelect Trump stuff as possible so President Trump can get a few last dollars from you REAL Americans!!!
maude · September 17, 2020 at 7:10 pm
And they say that Trump supporters are hateful! I read the comments and I am really ashamed to think that some of you may be my neighbors. Whatever happened to live and let live.

@DonkeyFarmer: I like how you parrot everything President Trump says. You are really good at that.

DonkeyFarmer · September 17, 2020 at 6:41 pm
Fauquier County Democrats won't be opening a campaign office, they are doing everything "virtually." LOL Sounds just like their "virtual" candidate Biden doing interviews from his basement using a teleprompter!

I'd like to see Trump and Pence stuff near my house. It will help me determine who to avoid re: Covid-19
Ellen Lee · September 17, 2020 at 5:10 pm
Everytime I see a Trump Pence sign, i think about the almost 200,000 Americans that have died of Covid 19 under his "leadership". Absolutely shameful.

Don't bring any of that crap near my house or family. I'll throw it in the burn pit.
