Fauquier has 33 new COVID-19 cases, 81st death

So far this month, Fauquier has 764 new COVID-19 deaths, 34 more hospitalizations and 9 deaths attributed to the virus.
of Fauquier citizens have received at least one dose as of Wednesday morning — a total of 43,997. Statewide, the rate stands at 67.7%.

of county residents have completed vaccination — a total of 39,541. Statewide, the rate stands at 60.2%.

Getting the vaccine

Everyone 12 and older in Virginia qualifies for COVID-19 vaccination. All who have received two doses of the Moderna or Pfizer vaccine will be eligible for a booster, starting Sept. 20.

Medical offices and pharmacies offer the vaccines free of charge. The health department also has walk-in clinics, with no appointment needed.

Fauquier has 33 new cases and its 81st death attributed to COVID-19, the Virginia Department of Health reported Wednesday morning.

The county’s cases total 6,412 — with 263 patients hospitalized — since the pandemic started.

So far this month, the county has 764 new cases — an average of 27 per day, 34 more hospitalizations and 9 additional deaths.

Fauquier County Public Schools reported 3 new cases Wednesday morning.

County schools have 37 “active cases,” continuing to decline, with 26 among students and 11 among staff members.

The school system defines active cases as those reported in the last 10 days.

The school system has reported 334 active cases — 238 among students and 96 among staff members — since the fall semester started Aug. 11.

The schools had 235 students and 7 staff members in quarantine as of Thursday, Sept. 23 — the most recent report.

The health department Wednesday morning reported 49 more deaths and 3,151 new cases statewide since Tuesday. Virginia deaths total 12,696 since the pandemic started and cases stand at 863,644.

Virginia hospitals reported 2,033 infected patients in their beds Wednesday morning, down 78 since Tuesday. The state’s hospitals have housed 69,739 infected patients since the pandemic started.

The county continues to trail the state in the percentage of residents vaccinated. (See box.)

Elsewhere in the Rappahannock Rapidan Health District:

Culpeper County has 6,011 cases, up 15 from Tuesday, and a 76th death.

Orange County, 3,302 cases, up 22, and a 47th death.

Madison County, 894, unchanged.

Rappahannock County, 517, up 3.

As of Wednesday morning, the rate of positive PCR tests over the last week stood at 9 percent statewide and 9.3 percent in the health district.
