Head-on crash with truck kills Catlett woman, 73

A 73-year-old Catlett woman died Friday morning in a head-on crash near Bristersburg in southeastern Fauquier.

Medics declared Norma Jean Alford dead at the scene, State Trooper J.T. Price said.

Mrs. Alford’s 2007 Honda Element and a 1997 Ford F-350 pickup truck collided on two-lane Bristersburg Road (Route 616), about eight-tenths of a mile north of Elk Run Road (Route 806), Trooper Price said.

The accident happened at 10:47 a.m.

Driving north, Mrs. Alford wore no seatbelt, according to the trooper.

The southbound pickup’s driver, Ricardo R. Gonzalas, 24, of Stafford, and his passenger both wore seatbelts but suffered injuries. A medical helicopter flew Mr. Gonzalas to Inova Fairfax Hospital. And ambulance took his 33-year-old passenger to Fauquier Hospital.

No charges have been placed and the accident remains under investigation, Trooper Price said. He described the scene as a section of winding, two-lane road with a double yellow line dividing the lanes.

Authorities closed the road for two hours after the accident.

Catlett Volunteer Fire & Rescue, county first responders, the Virginia Department of Transportation and sheriff’s deputies responded with state police.
