Hospital phone lines and internal network restored
Continuing to treat “urgent and emergency cases,” hospital postponing other procedures pending system restoration.
UPDATE: Fauquier Health’s phones and internal computer network back online. It issued this statement:
Fauquier Health announces as of today 2:00 pm, that their systems are back online and operational. Business has resumed to normal. All elective surgeries originally planned for today, December 10, 2020, were able to resume as planned. All Fauquier Health Physician Services clinic phone lines are also now back online and accessible. This follows the events that took place early yesterday when both primary and secondary network systems went down unexpectedly at the same time.
Fauquier Health’s main telephone lines and internal computer network crashed early Tuesday.
The “phone lines are currently experiencing technical difficulties. Our team is working hard to resolve this issue,” Fauquier Health posted on its Facebook page Tuesday morning. “In the meantime, if you need to contact any department or area in the hospital, including the main desk or ER, please call 540-359-8060.”
The shutdowns resulted from internal issues, not an “outside attack,” CEO Chad Melton said.
“The system was due to be replaced next year and decided to quit early,” Mr. Melton texted in response to questions about the telecom issues.
“Urgent and emergency cases are still open, but we are rescheduling elective surgery and other cases until later this week,” he added.
Fauquier Health’s external website continues to function.
Fauquier Health issued this statement just before 3 p.m. Wednesday:
Fauquier Health is currently facing a temporary network outage due to an equipment malfunction. This event was precipitated by an equipment failure and is not related to a cyber-attack.
We want to reassure our patients and communities that we remain focused on providing quality patient care. Our hospital is still providing care for emergent and urgent cases, including emergency surgical procedures. At this time, elective procedures that can be postponed have been cancelled until the issue is resolved.
The following Fauquier Health Physicians Services offices have not been impacted and are still operating as usual: Fauquier Health OB/GYN, Family Practice at Bealeton, Urology, and Cancer & Hematology.
The following offices are closed at this time: Piedmont Internal Medicine, Culpeper General Surgery and the multi-specialty clinics located at 550 Hospital Drive.
We thank our patients for their patience and understanding, and we will be providing status updates on our websites and social media pages. Individuals needing to contact the hospital, including the operator or emergency department (ER), can call our emergency phone number that has been setup to assist 540-359-8060.
Please, be polite. Avoid name-calling and profanity.

Wake Up Americans. When your infrastructures are failing...it is time to rethink who your leaders are. Really. The citizens of Fauquier County think this is OK?

@Just: You have to ask TADD, s/he's the Oracle at Delphi when it comes to illegals.
JustAnOpinion · December 10, 2020 at 8:03 pm
Haha... I wonder since it's almost Christmas, could it be Gremlins instead of illegals who broke the phones? I mean cmon, illegals get blamed for everything wrong in this country.

Only a little less than 24 hours! SCORE!!!

@TADD: "..go after these dishonest employers."
I thought it was the illegals you were railing against? How many illegals are currently at Fauquier Hospital with kidney failure Brainiac? You were barking against the socialist Medicaid system, and now??? Private business. You blame Northam who has zippo shitto to do with a private hospital sucking funds out of our community and sending it to equity investors. Your stupidity is shocking. The seniors around here vote for Republicans who scream at ANY social safety net program such as Medicaid and you blame Medicaid for improper funding. You want social safety nets gone but in the same breath blame them for your woes. You are so confused it is incredible. Get your head out of your ass and start reading stuff other than FaceBook, OANN, and RT crap, it is making you stupider than you already are.

TADD: You are a failure.

If an illegal is admitted into a hospital , a financial counselor meets with them and they are awarded emergent medicaid. Instead if calling their dishonest employer to pay the costs of their community care, our health care department provides them with free medication and services. If the illegal has a stroke or end stage kidney disease requiring long term care the hospitals contract out and pays their outpatient care to prevent readmissions or indefinite inpatient care. Case managers are hired to help with discharge planning who lack skills and do not inform family they have to be deported for their long term care needs task the hospital with the costs. The least they can do is contact the employer to front the Bill's instead of dumping these high costs on the health care provider. Emergent medicaid pays a fraction of the costs of care. If an illegal stays in the hospital for months medicaid may reimburse you urse $10,000 but their care may be in the hundreds of thousands. Until the American citizens wake up and whether you are republican or democrat ...go after these dishonest employers. Americans especially seniors who can not afford their out of pocket expenses which now can total $7 ,7000 a year. This is not and never has been ethical. Stop electing socialists to office. Ralph Northam, a doctor worked in health care and has knowledge of the statistics of preventable deaths a week in our hospitals due to negligence. Ralph funders included collectiva... an organization that helps illegals. Poor families cant pay their medical bills because the costs have increased enormously. Why? Because we are paying for the illegals care. Why don't these socialists complain to the leaders of the countries that are corrupt...
We can not be expected to provide funds unless there is a fix. The band aid approach has not worked. It is a major reason why so many hospitals have shut down. Research the collapse of hospitals near the borders.

JustAnOpinion. You are wrong!!!! TADD already told us it was the "illegals" that caused this.. Not poor decisions by a money hungry healthcare system hell bent on squeezing out every dime they can at any expense. 😊
As a business LifePoint is AWESOME. not so much as a hospital. Buy stock.. but don't go there as a patient.

"Fauquier Hospital has a 2 star rating already. 11 million or more illegals are in this country."
What do illegal alien have to do with Fauquier getting a two star rating? Oh, you blame the government run socialist 'Medicaid' system for Fauquier Health's problems.
TADD is what is known as a simpleton.

What a bunch of gibberish. In 2018, Fauquier Hospital reported $20.1M in profits on $151.1M in revenues. Can't find 2019... but I imagine 2019 and 2020 aren't so bad either. And the nurses were struggling already. LifePoint slashed pay and benefits for staff and cut costs wherever they could, to include reducing staffing, to achieve these great profits. That's the whole purpose of running a business isn't it? Run it as affordably as you can while charging what the market will bear so the owner can make as much profit as possible. The phone system just decided to break a little earlier than expected... It'll give the IT folks (which is likely downsized and outsourced) something exciting to do.

The public fear should focus on the loss of clinical/medical information. If the internet is down, how are the doctors and nurses reviewing labs and x rays and history and physicals and specialist notes? This should not be taken so lightly. Mr. Melton states the system decided to go early, he thought it would last another year.... This is very poor performance. The patients and their families that have delayed outpatient procedures, the community understands the woes you face as you reschedule your lives...
TADD · December 9, 2020 at 3:14 pm
This is what happens with the low reimbursements. Health care providers do not receive enough payments for resources used. Even with cheapening down the care these crises will continue to happen. Fauquier Hospital has a 2 star rating already. 11 million or more illegals are in this country. While their dishonest employers reek the benefits other businesses collapse. It is called criminal competition. Thank the dishonest businesses who do not pay a fair wage , place them in substandard housing, do not pay health care as our local hospital eats the costs of low income reimbursements by Medicaid so illegals receive health care. The nurses suffer from higher and unsafe case loads and our teachers can not afford housing.

I guess that is what happens when you put off doing things until the last minute. Curious as to why there was no back-up servers in place.
