Why do you seek election?

I did not feel my delegate was representing the needs of the district, particularly when taking positions that were against popular demand, such as killing the Equal Rights Amendment and obstructing non-partisan redistricting efforts.

What makes you the better candidate?

I have a proven record of advocating for everyday people; I’ve done it for 10 years. My opponent has a proven record of toeing the party line and obstructing good bills, even those carried by his Republican colleagues, such as the bills to require insurance companies to cover the diagnosis and treatment of autism. My opponent voted “No” twice on those bills (2011 and 2015) and abstained this year. He has opposed the Equal Rights Amendment for over a decade and has blocked a House vote at least 11 times despite bi-partisan support and support by 81 percent of Virginians.

I care about people, not partisan politics. So while my opponent blocks gender equality, opposes healthcare for autistic children, favors an insurance company’s ability to discriminate against people with pre-existing conditions and votes against much needed transportation funding for the I-95 corridor, I am focused on how we can improve the quality of life of Virginia families by investing in kids and their education, protecting access to healthcare, supporting sensible solutions to the traffic problem that has gotten progressively worse, and to making Virginia a fair place for all.

What rank as the top three issues facing the 2020 General Assembly and how do you propose to address them?

Top 3 issues to be addressed next session:

• Investment in education by raising our standards of quality.

• Renewing Medicaid expansion and adding dental and vision.

• Passing the Independent Redistricting Commission bill and the ERA.
