Warrenton police Tuesday arrested a Lynchburg-area man in the Oct. 6 murder of Derek De La Iglesia, 21, outside an apartment building.

Tyrik D’Andre Simmons, 22, of Madison Heights, faces a charge of accessory to murder after the fact, Warrenton police said in a press release Wednesday night.

Mr. Simmons remains in the Fauquier jail without bond.

“Further charges are expected,” as the investigation continues with Virginia State Police and the FBI assisting, the press release said.

Shot in the “upper body,” Mr. De La Iglesia died that Tuesday afternoon inside his Dodge Charger, its grill against a trash dumpster at 349 Jackson St.

A 2017 Liberty High School graduate, Mr. De La Iglesia lived in Marshall.

Authorities in December offered a $5,000 reward to anyone who provides “information leading to the arrest and conviction” of Mr. De La Iglesia’s murderer.
