Two Fauquier natives seek election as the county commissioner of revenue in the Nov. 5 election.

Ross D’Urso will retire at year’s end after 29 years on the job, creating the vacancy that Eric Maybach and Angela Smith want to fill.

Mr. D’Urso has served as the commissioner since 1995, after working as deputy five years before that. His office, with a staff of 22 and a $1.5-million budget, maintains tax assessment records and provides a range of financial services, including revenue forecasting, to county government.

Since his appointment, Mr. D’Urso won election six times.
