Q&As: Two candidates vie for Marshall supervisor

Paul Petrauskas and Mary Leigh McDaniel.
Nov. 5 Election
• When: 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 5.

• Where: 21 polling places in Fauquier.

• On the ballot: County supervisors, county school board, county constitutional offices — commissioner of revenue, commonwealth’s attorney, sheriff and treasurer, state legislators and John Marshall Soil and Water conservation board seats.

• More information: Fauquier County voter registrar’s office and Virginia Department of Elections.
Two Northern Fauquier residents with strong financial backgrounds seek election as Marshall District’s representative on the five-member county board of supervisors.

Mary Leigh McDaniel, who lives near Marshall and practices accounting in Warrenton, won the open seat four years ago, succeeding Peter Schwartz.

Paul Petrauskas, a stock analyst who lives in Upperville, launched an independent challenge in May.

Ms. McDaniel serves as the only independent with four Republican supervisors. None of those four faces an opponent on the Nov. 5 ballot.

The supervisors set the county budget and tax rates, make land-use decisions and make decisions about a range of county government policies.

The election winner will begin a four-year term in January.
