Sheriff’s office places charge against Cedar Lee student

The Fauquier County Sheriff’s Office has charged a Cedar Lee Middle School student who allegedly made threatening statements Monday.

“It is alleged the student made statements related to a potential act of violence after an investigation into an incident earlier in the day,” Sgt. James Hartman said late Monday afternoon.
“The statements were brought to the attention of the sheriff’s office school resource officer and school administration,” Sgt. Hartman added. “The student was identified and the incident is under joint investigation.

“The SRO will be filling juvenile petitions asking for a criminal charge(s) as part of the investigation.”

Sgt. Hartman said Tuesday morning that the student had been charged but could not release specific information because of the suspect’s age.
The sheriff’s office and school system continue working together “to ensure a safe school environment for everyone,” the sergeant said.
Sgt. Hartman asked anyone with information about the incident to call the sheriff’s office at 540-347-3300. A caller’s identity may remain anonymous.

If this had been some terroristic threat, presumably the statements by the police would've said so, which means this was probably something petty like one student telling another, "If you keep bothering me, I'll kick your ---."

There's too much overcriminalization of small infractions by youths.
