Student artists spread paint, positive message

We love that the next generation of Warrenton residents has taken ownership in the town. And it spreads such a positive message that we should remind ourselves of each day, especially after such a difficult year

Six Kettle Run High School students last week spread color and a positive message last week in Old Town Warrenton.

The National Art Honor Society members painted a mural with the inscription: “Be kind. Spread love. #LOVE Warrenton.”

The mural covers a municipal parking lot retaining wall on South Fourth Street, just down from Main.

The project resulted from Kettle Run art teacher Tisha Burke’s desire to get her students more involved in the community.

Experience Old Town Warrenton Executive Director Charity Furness worked with town officials to identify a location for the artists to beautify.

The students arrived after school on Thursday, June 3, primed the concrete wall and painted the mural in time for it to dry before that evening’s thunderstorms.

Connor Soldon, a rising Kettle Run junior, designed the mural.

Fellow students Abby Aldrich, Jasmin Hernandez, Cecelia Wise, Andrew Zhao and Maya Malory and teacher Heather Deeney helped paint it.

“It’s beautiful!” Ms. Furness said. “We love that the next generation of Warrenton residents has taken ownership in the town. And it spreads such a positive message that we should remind ourselves of each day, especially after such a difficult year.”
