The new roundabout connects Vint Hill Parkway and Farm Station Road (formerly Watson Drive).
Road improvements in Vint Hill reached a milestone Thursday with the opening of a new roundabout at Vint Hill Parkway and Farm Station Road.
It will provide easier and safer access between Vint Hill’s northern and southern sections.
The roundabout represents the latest step in an $11-million project that includes design, utility relocation and road construction. The project includes the completion of Vint Hill Parkway and Farm Station Road (formerly Watson Drive), along with rehabilitation of Kennedy Road and Finch Lane.
“The roundabout’s opening is a major step in our effort to improve the road system here at Vint Hill,” said Tim Harms, executive director of the Vint Hill Economic Development Authority. “One of the most-requested improvements for the community has been a modernized and simplified road system to better connect our businesses and neighborhoods, and we’re making great progress on delivering just that.”
The project’s next phase will rebuild Kennedy Road between Aiken Drive and Burrough Drive and completion of Vint Hill Parkway between the roundabout and Kennedy Road.
That part of Kennedy Road will close for about three months, starting Monday, April 24. Signs will advise drivers on the best way to move around the temporary construction.

The infrastructure project should conclude in 2018.
State grants and the Vint Hill EDA have split the cost, with Fauquier County government administering the project serving as the conduit for the funding.
At the project’s completion, the Vint Hill EDA will have invested more $7 million in road design and construction over the last five years.
The authority has transferred or sold most of the property for government or private use.
Vint Hill Village LLC owns most of the vacant land and plans to seek rezoning for a new “town center.”

Roundabouts are efficient for those paying attention to the road and their surroundings. Unfortunately the laws allow drivers to hold and focus on their phones (as long as they aren't texting, haha) and they are having trouble driving on a straight road.
People need to hang up and drive, particularly in these new roundabouts.
