Virginia will move into Phase 3 reopening July 1
Gov. Ralph Northam announces July 1 as the date for Phase 3 reopening to begin in Virginia.
Virginia on Wednesday, July 1, will move into Phase 3 of reopening amid the COVID-19 pandemic, Gov. Ralph Northam announced Tuesday afternoon.
I want to reiterate that everyone should continue to take this pandemic very seriously.
— Gov. Ralph Northam
That will lift capacity restrictions on restaurants and “non-essential” businesses.
Social gatherings of up to 250 people may take place.

Gyms and fitness centers will be allowed to operated at 75 percent of capacity.
Museums, zoos and other outdoor venues can open at 50 percent of capacity, with a maximum of 1,000 people.
Swimming pools will be able to operate at 75 percent of capacity.
Overnight summer camps will remain closed.
Social distancing guidelines remain in place and he still encourages people to wear masks, which scientific research supports, Gov. Northam said.
While the numbers of new coronavirus cases and deaths have slowed in Virginia, other states continue to record significant increases.
As of Tuesday morning, the Virginia Department of Health had reported 58,994 infections and 1,645 deaths since the pandemic began.
“It still means you’re safer at home, especially if you’re vulnerable,” the governor said during his 2 p.m. press conference in Richmond. “It means we’re still strongly encouraging teleworking. People still need to focus on physical distancing in all situations outside of their home. Face coverings are still the right thing to do in indoor, public spaces.
“I want to reiterate that everyone should continue to take this pandemic very seriously. Cases are on the rise in many other states, as I said previously. I do not want to see that happen in the commonwealth. Be cautious and take the necessary steps to protect yourself and the people around you.”

Agree. Because they're the most populous states.
AmericanPatriot · June 25, 2020 at 6:56 pm
The worst states of batflu DEATHS, not infections, are run by democrats.
Right into the ground.

I vary my news input to receive many views. Besides Texas, Florida and Arizona (which I picked because they are on the forefront of the upticks in cases - to be fair, California is also on the forefront), there are 13 other states with Republican governors and 10 with Democratic governors where the coronavirus curve is on a disturbing upward trend. Virginia is not one of those states dangerously trending upward.
Statistics are facts. I acknowledge that. However, it's how you present those facts in a comparative manner. States are different in population size and density. NY, NJ and Connecticut (states with Democratic governors & legislatures) have high populations and greater density and more cases and deaths but these are trending downward because of precautions taken and measures are now being put in place to ensure that it stays that way. A lot depends on the attitude and behavior of individual people that will tell the tale. It can be uncomfortable to some when it is stated that infections and deaths in one state are "better" than another.

Interesting that Rover picked 3 Republican Governor states to attack... same ones that the media keep spreading their lies and fear. Maybe Rover has been watching too much CNN.
The truth is that Democrat run states have most of the deaths. 30,000 died in New York and another 12,000 dead in New Jersey. Just those 2 states have 1/3 of all deaths. Andrew Cuomo is responsible for more deaths with his horrible decision to send Covid19 positive patients into nursing homes than the entire state of Texas.
And AmericanPatriot - I said I didn't like Northam. I think he has very poor judgment and is compromised because of his blackface scandal. He ran as a moderate but now he is doing whatever the leftists tell him to do. He probably made a deal with the leftists that he will do their bidding if they would let him stay in office. I do think that he is doing well in regards to the Covid 19 lockdown when you compare him to other Democrat governors. Even Larry Hogan, a Republican, imposed stricter rules than Northam. And the mask order he made intentionally unenforceable. I have never worn a mask, and never been asked to wear one. Northam has pretty much just followed the guidelines issued by the Trump administration.

Rover 530 -- I reject panic porn. Florida, Arizona, and Texas are doing better than Virginia in many important respects.
Florida and Texas are better in Cases per Million.
Virginia -- 6,912
Florida -- 4,819
Texas -- 4,311
Florida and Texas are better in Active Cases per Million
Virginia -- 5,816
Florida -- 3,279
Texas -- 1,801
Florida, Arizona, and Texas are better in deaths per million
Virginia -- 193
Arizona -- 190
Florida -- 153
Texas -- 78
Arizona and Florida are better in tests per million
Virginia -- 73,487
Florida -- 96,444
It's easy to spread fear, and more difficult to fall for it when you know facts.

Did northam do well with the KKK robes? Or describing how to murder babies?
How about him walking around the beach with no mask, taking selfies, while throwing throwing edicts like Nicolae Ceausecu?
DonkeyFarmer · June 24, 2020 at 12:53 pm
Rover - Cases are going up because testing is increasing. The death rate continues to decline.
I don't like Northam, but I think he has done pretty well other than the mask order (which I don't see anywhere in this phase 3, and the governor now says he "encourages" wearing of masks. So it is an order or just "encouragement?")
Sammy - You are talking gibberish. Try sticking to the topic.

Gov. Northam's cautious approach has created an environment where Virginia can get ahead of the virus outbreak. The public needs to cooperate and take personal precautions to prevent self-infection and the infection of others. COVID cases are skyrocketing in those states who were less restrictive and cautious than Virginia. While our state government's actions are not perfect, they are superior to those in states like Florida, Arizona and Texas.

Its so hard to get petty tyrants to give up perceived power. From the snotty karens in our stores, to buffoonish klan robe wearing baby murderers in the governor's mansion.

Deaths due to Covid-19 per 1,000,000 residents as of June 21:
Spain - 605
Italy - 571
Sweden - 500
United States - 361
Spain had a lockdown and had more deaths per capita than Sweden
Italy still has a severe lockdown and has more deaths per capita than Sweden
Sweden did nothing. Nothing was shut down, and they have lower death rate than Spain and Italy and only slightly higher than the United States.
We should have isolated the old and those with risk factors, and have targeted quarantines of hot spots like NYC and Washington State. And Andrew Cuomo should be held accountable for sending Covid-19 positive patients INTO nursing homes. That lunatic required nursing homes to take Covid19 patients into their facilities. That was the worst possible place to send them. He is responsible for thousands of deaths.

If Virginia follows the lead of most other states we will have cases start to increase while all of the measures of severity (e.g. hospitalizations, ICU beds, vents, and deaths) either level off or continue falling. What can cause such behavior of the stats? Two reasons come to mind: (1) testing moves into new populations that have not been tested before, such as younger people whoget tested before going to work, and testing. The younger populations are generally better able to withstand the virus, with a higher percentage of asymptomatic, less ill when hospitalized, and less in need of ICU care and vents. Additionally, many younger people who survive CoViD-19 do not have antibodies because their T cells solve the infection problem. (2) a mutating virus that is less severe, as reported in Italy and many other places in the world. This possibility has been seen clinically but has not yet been proven by tests of the virus itself. Thus, the three metrics to watch going forward are (a) average age of positive tests (not currently provided by VDH), (b) VHHA hospital statistics, and (c) deaths in total and by age.
Finally, CDC estimated the infection infection rate at .26% overall. John Ioannidis, a professor of epidemiology and population health at Stanford University, argues in a paper recently published that although seroprevalence studies place the Infection Fatality Rate overall at the CDC's .26%, the hockey stick like graph of deaths by age place the IFR for those under 70 years of age at a median of .04. That is significant because the IFR of the flu is though to be between .05 and .1.

What's getting lost in the conversation about Covid-19 is that folks are still getting sick but the % of folks who die is way down. The talk of a "2nd Wave" is nuts since we have NO History to compare but "if" there is a 2nd wave, would someone kindly let me know when the "1st wave" ended so we can have stats to compare.
Also could someone please let me know how many died from the Flu this time? Usually 30-40 K I think? Gee, no way they moved some of of those to Covid-19?
Sorry for sure about the folks who have died but we have dealt with this due to the Flu and unfortunately we may due to C-19 even with a Vaccine. Vaccine does not work for all with the Flu each year. I think most know now how to keep themselves safe and time to get moving , just like after 9-11

This lockdown started in March when they told us "two weeks to flatten the curve." It is now nearly 4 months and there are still pages and pages of restrictions, none of which were made by our legislature, the "lawmakers." Meanwhile studies have come out that said this lockdown has done little to nothing to prevent infections, it has just spread them out further. Sweden never shut anything down and have infections and deaths in line with most of Europe. Ruined so many small businesses, meanwhile Walmart, Home Depot, and Amazon have been making record profits. The government decided who wins and loses in this media driven overblown "pandemic."
We can NEVER let them do this again.
