Voter registration deadline extended through Thursday

Voter registration for the Nov. 3 general election will remain open through 11:59 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 15, because of a federal judge’s ruling.
This gives eligible Virginians additional time to register or update their current voter registration record.

RICHMOND — A federal district judge Wednesday morning extended the deadline for citizens of Virginia to register to vote through Thursday, Oct. 15.

The extension will provide all eligible Virginians with the opportunity to participate in the Nov. 3 by registering to vote on by midnight Thursday. Eligible Virginians may submit a voter registration application or update an existing voter registration record in any of the following methods:

• In person to the office of their local general registrar by 5 p.m. Thursday.

• By mail postmarked by Thursday, Oct. 15.

• Online at elections.virginia.gov/voterinfo through 11:59 p.m. Thursday.

• To an NVRA designated state agency, such as the DMV or a social services office, by Thursday.

The extension resulted from Tuesday’s shutdown of the state voter database and other government system after a fiber optic cable accidently got severed in Chesterfield County. Voter registration for the Nov. 3 election had been scheduled to close Tuesday.

Currently registered Virginia voters and eligible Virginians who already have submitted registration applications do not need to take any additional action.

“The department welcomes today’s court decision to extend the voter registration deadline through Thursday, October 15th,” Virginia Department of Elections Commissioner Chris Piper said. “This gives eligible Virginians additional time to register or update their current voter registration record. We encourage Virginians to access the Citizen’s Portal at elections.virginia.gov/voterinfo today or use one of the many other options available for registering to vote.”

In addition to registering to vote, Virginians also may check their current voter registration status, find their polling location and apply for an absentee ballot on the department’s Citizen Portal.

I need to be registered as a voter because last time when I reached to cast my vote, they said I am not registered. Now we have got a lot of time to get registered. I hope people will use their votes for electing the right person. I wish I could get assistance in writing term papers to complete it before the election started. Thanks for this update.

I like your blog very much. I enjoy reading it. You speak freely. It's a great piece of news that the Voter registration for citizens of Virginia deadline extended through Thursday. It's true that we all should vote for our opinion. Arcade and Party Rentals by Gems
