Temporary stables under large tents will fill part of the nine-acre parcel on East Shirley Avenue in Warrenton this weekend.

The 117th annual Warrenton Horse Show runs Wednesday, Aug. 31, through Sunday, Sept. 4.

The five-day show offers exhibition classes in hunter, jumper, ladies sidesaddle and other categories.

Gates open at 8 a.m. daily, except for 9 a.m. Saturday.

Dozens of board members and other volunteers help make the annual equestrian event possible.

This year’s highlights include the $5,000 Hunter Classic on Saturday, foxhunter exhibition classes and a tailgate party on Sunday.

“Sunday is a fun night. Lots of local people showing who usually don’t show,” Show Manager Tommy Lee Jones said. “Last year there must have been 5,000 people on Sunday night because the Hunt Night is so local.”

This year, the show will offer more thoroughbred classes.

Show participants can register at any time.

“We take entries all during the show,” Mr. Jones said. “You can walk up and enter and go right into the ring.”

Proceeds from a silent auction will benefit several charities including the Fauquier SPCA, Bright Stars, the Make-A-Wish Foundation and more.

Admission is free on Wednesday and Thursday, but $10 per person on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Children 12 and younger get in free.
