Absentee and mail-in voting are safe and legal
Early voting will begin Friday, Sept. 18 in Virginia.
By Kathy Kadilak
During what is surely going to be an election season rife with fear, misinformation and fraudulent claims about our voting system, every citizen needs to know the facts. After researching the topics of absentee voting vs. universal mail-in voting, the distinction is simply this:
In absentee voting, a citizen requests an absentee ballot online, via phone or through the mail and provides the election office proof of their eligibility to vote. They receive a ballot with instructions on how to complete and submit it. Donald Trump and his family vote absentee, and he has publicly stated that he believes this is safe.
Universal mail-in voting involves the state automatically mailing ballots to every registered voter to enable them to easily vote absentee. Note that I said, every registered voter. What does this tell us? It is an effort to cut the red tape and get the ballots to folks who are already registered to vote. Both Oregon (Blue) and Utah (Red) are among the states doing this for the 2020 election.
In addition, more than half of states allow for ballots to be collected by a family member or friend or other volunteer to be returned on the voter’s behalf. This provision is designed to boost turnout and ensure voters who are older, homebound, disabled or live far from U.S. postal services can get their ballot returned. This is not a new practice and helps our most vulnerable citizens to vote.
According to the U.S. News and World Report, “One of the few recent instances of fraud related to ballot collection happened in North Carolina in 2018, resulting in a congressional election being overturned. A state probe there found that a Republican political operative illegally gathered ballots and workers testified that they were directed to collect blank or incomplete ballots, forge signatures and fill in votes. Officials overturned the election.”
The instances of voter fraud related to absentee voting are rare. Here are the facts as cited by Charles Stewart, director of the MIT Election Data and Science Lab: “There have been 143 cases of fraud using mailed ballots over the course of 20 years, which comes out to seven to eight cases per year, nationally. We are talking about an occurrence that translates to about 0.00006 percent of total votes cast.”
Beware of claims about mail-in voter fraud. It is a red herring designed to have you believe you cannot trust the outcome of this critically important election. Consider this: When fraud is uncovered – no matter how insignificant – it is a clear example of the system working. Anyone committing voter fraud will face arrest, fines and possible jail time. Our country takes the sanctity of our voting system seriously. Trust that over any rhetoric to the contrary.
Most importantly, please vote. Your vote matters! There are several options for voting and, if you haven’t registered to vote, please do so now. Go to: http://www.vote.elections.virgina.gov/voterinformation to get the facts and make your plan to vote.

Mr. Bentley, I've seen Tony Bentley's photo in the local paper in past decades- whether it is actually you or not, commenting here, that may be a possibility. I tend to take things for face value- as they are- and don't speculate often in The Twilight Zone.
Tony Bentley · September 10, 2020 at 3:44 pm
JEFF - How do you know if I am white or black or brown? You don't have a clue anymore of who I am as you do about the inane things you post.
White guilt my patoot!

JEFF AMERICAN - "Mr. Bentley, you may stop with your excessive hand-wringing and White Guilt over the casual use of the term "Boy."
Go back and read Heather Johnson's comments, HIS use of "boy" is not casual, it is a blatant form of insult, a put down. (HIS being that it not a woman writing the comments but a man wearing his wife's underwear pretending to be a woman.)

Short Circuited, what is true is that all Bolsheviks are very stupid and very dangerous.
For the rest of our fellow Thinking Virginians, here are some facts about what happens to those more than 587,000 unrequested and bogus Virginia APPLICATIONS which are being converted to unrequested and bogus Vote-By-Mail BALLOTS to Democrats, dead people and pets:
Have a legitimate ballot you wish to mail at the U.S. Post Office thinking your vote will be counted? Better think again:
KEY TAKEAWAY: Donald Finley, writing at AMERICANTHINKER.COM summarizes it best in his observation there are thousands of dishonest Democrat operatives around the country on call, ready to play their part, especially in areas where polling is close. To shut down this plan to commit fraud against the American voters, to keep the American Dream alive and thriving, President Trump must win by overwhelming margins. The Trump team must get out the vote to ensure unequivocal, decisive numbers that deliver a clear and definitive message that Americans want freedom and prosperity, not socialism and economic destruction. The Democrats have no plan for a Trump landslide.

Jeffersonian Moron: You really are a moron.
Jeffersonian American · September 8, 2020 at 11:37 pm
Short Circuited, there is nothing to indicate these over 587,000 Virginia applications were actually for absentee ballots- they appear to have been for vote-by-mail ballots, which are not the same thing. Note the activist Center for Voter Information based here in Virginia was also involved in misleading ballot mailers to voters in North Carolina and Florida in 2018. The organization is linked to funding by George Soros and Tom Steyer.

Jeffersonian American · September 7, 2020 at 10:49 pm
Mr. Bentley, you may stop with your excessive hand-wringing and White Guilt over the casual use of the term "Boy." You might be enlightened to know our 34th U.S. President, General Dwight Eisenhower- an honorable American President (with no other peers since he departed office in 1961, I might add), used this exact same term to describe his vapid successor, John F. Kennedy. Masking his very deep private concerns in public about the young, voluble adolescent playboy whose father stole the 1960 Presidential Election through organized crime massive voter fraud, Ike referred privately to his aides and closest friends to describe Jack Kennedy as "The Boy." And President Eisenhower elaborated after one particularly disturbing 1960 Presidential Transition Meeting in the White House to his advisors after the vapid young 43-year-old Kennedy left the room, "The Boy has no idea of the complexity of the job." So the use of "The Boy" or "Boy" has many other contexts and meanings different from which you so vapidly describe while so eagerly playing the "RACISM!" Card.
Short-Circuited, one highly suspect Virginia organization, the Center for Voter Information, sent more than 2 million of those vote by mail applications to Virginia voters, of which over 587,000 of those had the incorrect return address on the return envelope, with most of those sent to Fairfax County voters. And it wasn’t the first mistake by the Center. Elections officials in Wisconsin warned about incorrect mailers sent by the Center in 2018, the same year the group mailed voter registration forms to 140,000 voters who were already registered to cast a ballot in Virginia. Those mailers were accompanied by letters that told residents they had not been registered to vote. Looking the other way and lying in the local paper about this is truly moronic- and dangerous.

Tony Bentley · September 5, 2020 at 9:50 am
Heather baby, now I see where you are going with the "boy" comment. Shame on you!
In most situations, the word "boy" is not a problem. Used to describe an African American man, however, the word is troublesome. That's because historically, whites routinely described Black men as boys to suggest African Americans weren't on equal footing with them. Both during and after enslavement, African Americans weren't viewed as full-fledged people but as mentally, physically, and spiritually inferior beings to whites. Calling Black men "boys" was one way to express the racist ideologies of yesteryear.
Despite its widespread use as a racial put down, in Ash v. Tyson Foods, the U.S. Court of Appeals decided that "boy" cannot be considered a racial slur unless it's prefaced with a racial marker such as "Black." This decision has sparked controversy, considering that whites typically didn't call African American "Black boys" during Jim Crow, but simply "boys."
The good news, according to Prerna Lal of Change.org, is that the U.S. Supreme Court reversed the holding, ruling that "the use of the word 'boy' on its own is not enough evidence of racial animus, but that the word is also not benign." That means the court is willing to consider the context in which "boy" is used to determine if it's being uttered as a racial epithet."

Mr. Bentley, perhaps there is something in our current time for all of us to learn and remember through our study of the Battle of Athens:
The Battle of Athens, Tennessee By Neil Kumar
On August 1, 1946, a group of Southern World War Two veterans in Athens, Tennessee, fought and won the only successful armed insurrection in the United States since the War of Independence. These brave men embodied that irrepressible Southern spirit, that martial valor and moral sublimity that suffused the souls of Dixie and her children for generations upon generations, stretching backwards in time through the annals of Indo-European civilization — that constitution which we fervently hope has not drained from our blood forevermore. The Battle of Athens stands, then, as a monumental event in the history of Southern, and thus Western, civilization, the fulfillment of an ancestral promise; so, too, does the Battle of Athens represent a call echoing through the ages to fall on modern ears that must not remain deaf — a call to actualize the destiny that our forefathers spilt so much blood, both their own and their enemies’, to leave to us. Athens is the seat of McMinn County, which, at the time, was the nerve center for Sheriff Paul Cantrell, a major lieutenant of a corrupt Democratic machine which stretched from Tennessee to the District of Columbia. Though we will eschew labeling Cantrell or his machine politics “evil,” as this was simply the way things were done in many American polities, it is worth noting that before and especially during the Second World War, Cantrell presided over corruption and graft on an industrial scale. As Chris DeRose details, the Sheriff drew salaries of nearly sixty thousand dollars per year over his first six years that were worth well over one million dollars in today’s purchasing power. He was also appointed superintendent of the county workhouse for an additional salary of over two thousand dollars; DeRose notes that “McMinn County did not have a workhouse, making its superintending easy.” This at a time when the median Tennessee home was worth less than two thousand dollars and the starting salary for enlisted men was fifty dollars per month. Despite strict rationing, McMinn machine men never wanted for cars, tires, or fuel. Illegal casinos, speakeasies, and whorehouses payed thousands of dollars per month in protection money. Dozens of county employees were listed on the payrolls for the sole purpose of providing cover for a vast money laundering operation. There were no “elections” in McMinn County through the war years. The ballot boxes were in Democratic offices, and Cantrell’s deputies served as the election officers, some of whom were brutal killers with the blood of innocent civilians on their hands. Other local thugs and felons were on hand to further inculcate the climate of fear, including a man who murdered his own father and, five months after the election, murdered his sister-in-law, an expectant mother, and an infant child. There were about two gunmen for each voter; DeRose further illuminates the chicanery, noting that some voters were temporarily imprisoned to prevent them from voting, while others had their poll tax receipts and eligibility certificates invalidated, “in some cases by the very official who had issued them.” Word was put out among elderly voters that their pensions would be held up unless they voted “the right way.” When the Republican election judge, a disabled veteran of the First World War, attempted to view the ballot count, he was dragged into the corridor and beaten, leaving him paralyzed. Another man who attempted to observe the ballot count was pistol-whipped, and one gunman fired at a poll worker who tried to leave the courthouse.

Only democrats ever cheat at election. Without cheating, they can never win anything. Obama cheated in Illinois in 2008 and 2012. They also cheated their own by kicking Sanders out and giving it to Hillary in 2016. Democrats are evil scum of the Earth, just look at all the rioting they do when things don't go their way. It comes with their low intelligence and pathetic education level - like Tony, he is at maximum mid school drop out, poor uneducated boy.
Tony Bentley · September 3, 2020 at 9:02 am
"The data in states that already have universal mail-in voting doesn’t back up Trump or Barr’s claims. A Washington Post analysis of three vote-by-mail states found that officials identified just 372 possible cases of double voting or voting on behalf of deceased people out of about 14.6 million votes cast by mail in the 2016 and 2018 general elections, or 0.0025 percent."
If there is going to be any fraud, it will come from the Trump's, that's what they do, and they've had LOTS of practice.

Make "stable genius" stuff from the cuckoo bird-in-Chief:
"Trump suggests voters cast ballots twice, which if done intentionally is illegal
The president encouraged people to vote twice — once by mail and once in person — to test the protections intended to guard against double voting. Intentionally voting twice is illegal, and in many states, including North Carolina, it is a felony."
Silii · September 1, 2020 at 11:33 am
Best kept secrets: A drivers license is NOT proof of citizenship. And where do you get that 'radical left' stuff for immigrants? Oh, never forget Trump built all his properties and golf courses on the backs of undocumented workers that he underpaid, gave no sick time off, treated poorly. He undercut union workers - wouldn't hire them because they cost too much. There were so many undocumented workers building and working at Bedminster in New Jersey that they had their own commmunity and commuted to work. They didn't lose their jobs until a year ago when it was revealed that Trump was one of the biggest employers of undocumented workers, and it was well into his presidency when that reveal was made. PS Undocumented workers pay taxes - their employers are required by law to withhold SS and taxes. However, they can never benefit from SS. So, if you collect social security, thank undocumented workers for their contribution to you.
jim goodwin · August 31, 2020 at 5:58 pm
Silii · August 31, 2020 at 8:48 am
To allay the allegations that undocumented workers will vote: No, they won't because to begin with they aren't registered to vote. In Fauquier, absentee ballots received by mail are processed via a very strict, multi layer process. People who think absentee voting by mail is full of fraud are quite misinformed.
Lexon · August 31, 2020 at 7:00 am
I agree with the opinion that it will be as safe as possible. Now is the time for new technologies. Computer systems have multilevel security systems. Read about it on the website https://light-it.net/
. I think that online voting will soon be introduced in all countries, because it is not that expensive.

It use to be you could only vote if you had a license or voter registration card to prove if you were a legal citizen of the USA. Scores of illegals are now in our country because of the radical left. Will they be using our ballots? Will they be coerced to vote democrat because they do not comprehend our political system. Will they be threatened to vote a certain way? They have been used as slaves, and businesses use them creating criminal competition for the honest businesses. The dishonest businesses don't pay fair wages, health care benefits, or follow US labor laws. Why should we trust the mail in ballots? If you think it is fair to treat illegals in this manner and give them the right to vote, please move out of the USA. Because Judical Watch found California was not in compliance with this matter the last election.

USING THE U.S. POSTAL SERVICE TO STEAL LOCAL, STATE AND NATIONAL ELECTIONS:
We have multiple Radical Marxist Democrats below spreading Spectacular Lies once again. President Trump fully supports the Absentee Ballot process for all legal American and Virginia citizen groups- no one is being denied the opportunity to cast their Absentee Ballot in the November, 2020 national election. There IS A HUGE DIFFERENCE between properly requested and registered Absentee Ballots versus generic unsolicited, mass-mailed-out ballots outside of the Absentee Ballot process. This is what President Trump and loyal Americans are against for very obvious reasons permitting massive voter fraud across Virginia and other equally awful Democrat-controlled states at this time. With this week's outrageous election news coming out of Virginia, there will very likely be over 587,000 Virginians who will be denied their proper votes being county (having their votes negated or canceled out) at the hands of a vile, corrupt Democrat Bolshevik Machine currently in operational control of our Commonwealth- proving again and again they will stop at nothing to steal another Virginia Election with their more than 587,000 bogus ballots mailed out this month to dead people, pets, and many others.
So get the facts. Read the news links provided below for starters, and perform your own independent research. We are all better off without the Pubic Enemies who attempt every day through their Spectacular Lies and disinformation campaigns to defend the indefensible.
And all of you honest, law-abiding, hard-working, taxpaying, legal Virginia conservative citizens of all races and socioeconomic backgrounds, striving to achieve the American Dream of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness in The Mother of All States, thought we were going to have an Honest 2020 Election here in Virginia while it is under Democrat Control? And that your vote actually mattered or even counted? Think Again.
Our votes will not count this Election Year 2020 in Virginia while the Democrat Bolshevik Machine is still in operational control of our Commonwealth- proving again and again they will stop at nothing to steal another Virginia Election with their 500,000 bogus ballots mailed out this week to dead people, pets, and many others. At some point, civility is going to break down here across Virginia to put an end to this Democrat criminality and treason against our most fundamental American principles of "consent of the governed." And it will be another necessary moment in our American and Virginia history.

DonkeyFarmer - My bad, applications, not actual ballots. But why did he receive Absentee Ballot applications UNLESS they were requested? The County Registrar does not send out even "applications" unless you ask for them. Something doesn't add up. Not only is there a place for the LAST 4 of your SSN, but you need to know the person's birth date. Think old AngryBob would be able to come up with all that information to get the "fake" applications through the system?

mail is so old school. why not just vote electronically? No problem that the OPM breech a few years back under obama gave the chinese access to millions of persons datas
You guys promoting mail in ballots are very old school. Log into the voting site. Pick your choices. click enter.
so i have to trust the mail man to bring me my ballot and then return it? Aint no problem there just like FL had no problem either.
Voting in person is a small price to pay for liberty. You can send kids to charge the beach but cant get to the polls? You can send kids into the jingle but cant get to the polls? You can send kids to Affystan but cant get to the polls? You can get out to a burger but not to the polls? Only teachers have a ligit reason to not vote in person - hyperbole fear of covid but then that's not really a ligit reason is it?

Demosthenes: All seven I received are official absentee ballot applications from the County of Fauquier Office of the General Registrar. There's a spot on the form for SSN, but I'll bet it doesn't matter what you put there. Too bad there isn't something like a photo ID to prove your identity.
Even better, you can do it online! What could possibly go wrong with that?!?
Demosthenes · August 28, 2020 at 8:06 am
That's a tough one to believe DF. Ballot request forms seem to be a dime a dozen and are going out from a variety of organizations. But to get an actual ballot you'd have to request it while also knowing the person's date of birth and social security number.
