Two FHS students charged after BB gun found Friday

Sheriff’s office update at 3:50 p.m. Friday:

Two Fauquier High School students will face criminal charges as the investigation into a found BB pistol continues. The FHS School Resource Officer has charged two 16-year-old males, each with disorderly conduct.

One student faces additional charges of possession of marijuana and possession of nicotine products under age 21.

As the investigation progresses, it is alleged the two students had knowledge of the BB pistol and its location on school premises but failed to notify school personnel or the SRO.

This investigation is on-going as law enforcement and school officials work together to ensure a safe school environment for everyone.

The sheriff’s office issued this press release at 12:47 p.m.:

Earlier this morning, Friday, September 27, 2019, Fauquier High School staff and the school resource officer received an anonymous tip about a suspicious item in a closet near the cafeteria.

FHS staff and the SRO searched an unsecured janitor’s closet and located a BB pistol.

This incident is under active joint investigation by the Fauquier County Sheriff’s Office and Fauquier County Public Schools.

Social media reports about a firearm at the school and that the school is on lockdown are inaccurate.

Again, a BB pistol was located in an unsecured janitor’s closet in the FHS cafeteria by school staff and the SRO after receiving a tip this morning.

The sheriff’s office and the school division takes this matter seriously and are conducting a vigorous investigation.

Anyone with information regarding this incident is encouraged to contact the Sheriff’s Office at 540-347-3300. A caller’s identity may remain anonymous.

The Fauquier County Sheriff’s Office and Fauquier County Public Schools continuously work together to ensure a safe learning environment for students and faculty.
