Bealeton trail under Rt. 17 will be closed next week
The trail will be closed Oct. 11-17 for the continuing project to replace the Route 17 bridge’s southern span.
The pedestrian trail under the Route 17 (Marsh Road) bridge at Bealeton will be closed next week as work continues on the southbound bridge over the Norfolk
Southern Railway and Route 805 (Bealeton Road).
The trail, which runs along the north side of the railroad and connects homes on the east side of Route 17 to Remington Road near Cedar Lee Middle School, will be closed Oct. 11-17.
Under a $4.9-million contract, Caton Construction Group Inc., of Charlottesville, continues work to replace the superstructure of the southbound bridge, including the deck and railings. The existing bridge was built in 1948. The new bridge will have two 12-foot wide travel lanes with improved shoulders; the deck will be 38 feet wide from rail to rail.
Southbound traffic on Route 17 is restricted to one 12-foot travel lane.
