County offering businesses free COVID-19 PPE kits

Each kit includes 100 masks and eight bottles of hand sanitizer.
County government will make available COVID-19 Personal Protection Safety Kits for up to 100 Fauquier businesses.

The board of supervisors last month approved funding for the one-time supplies of 100 face masks and eight bottles of hand sanitizers in each kit. A county Department of Economic Development survey identified the need, according to a press release.

To receive one of the kits, a business must affirm it meets the state coronavirus health and safety guidelines as well as certain Fauquier County criteria.

The kits will go to the first 100 eligible businesses that apply here, starting at 8:30 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 6.

Once notified, a business will have 14 days to pick up its kit from the county economic development office at 35 Culpeper St. in Warrenton.

The county needs to establish better hygiene stations in their own buildings including the county schools. If you have to touch a push sanitizer bottle or wall sanitizer, you are exposing hundreds of people including children to pathogens. Install pushless sanitizers. One in the lobby of a school building is not enough. Every bathroom should have them on the outside prior to entering. Every bathroom should have a trash can at the door. This allows the person to open the door with a paper towel and discard it.Reminders in the bathroom to use a paper towel to turn on and off faucets. Don't ever use your bare hands to touch door knobs or faucets. If you go into an establishment that doesn't have a trash can at the door, they should be told to get one. Trash should be emptied daily. Employees should not have to push a code or open a door knob without tissues and a trash can nearby to discard it. Be proactive. Don't permit contraction of the virus at all. Be part of the solution, not the problem. Where is the Fauquier County health department? They should be mandated to assess Fauquier County buildings for its effective measures to stop the spread of the virus.
