Smith-Midland panels picked for Ferguson HQ

The new Ferguson HQ3 will feature SlenderWall panels manufactured at Smith-Midland’s plant in Southern Fauquier.
Fauquier-based Smith-Midland will produce and install almost 26,000 square feet of its proprietary SlenderWall panels for a new corporate headquarters in Newport News.

The eight-story, 260,000-square-foot Ferguson Enterprises building will house corporate training, a development center and various departments. The nation’s largest plumbing wholesaler, Ferguson has 14,000 retail locations in the U.S.

Based in Virginia for six decades, Ferguson plans to spend $82 million on its Headquarters 3 (HQ3) in the City Center at Oyster Point.

Richmond-based W.M. Jordan Co., the construction manager, selected white acid-etch-finished SlenderWall panels for the building, which Clark Nexsen designed.

The precast concrete panels will include 3-1/2 inches of factory-installed closed-cell foam insulation to provide an R-24 thermal rating for the exterior cladding. Smith-Midland will also produce more than 8,000 square feet of traditional architectural precast elements and several custom landscape elements for the project.

“The prestige of this project and the design standards to be met are perfectly aligned with the path we have chosen for the future of our organization,” Smith-Midland CEO Ashley Smith said. “SlenderWall is continuing to gain momentum, providing us an increasing opportunity for growth.”

The panel production will fill the architectural plant schedule at the Midland plant for approximately five weeks in mid-summer. Delivery of the first panels for Ferguson’s new HQ3 building will begin in late July.
