A free “Veterans Resource Summit” will take place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, March 26, at the Warrenton-Fauquier Airport terminal near Midland.

A representative from the Virginia Department of Veterans Services will speak on “Pension, Survivor’s Pension, Aid & Attendance.” Topics also will include qualifications, benefits and updates on the application process.

Culpeper-based Aging Together and the American Association of Retired Persons state office will sponsor the free summit for the second year. The 2019 event drew a wide turnout from veterans and their families in Culpeper.

Hosting the event at the airport in Fauquier County will allow for greater attendance, as well as providing space for resource tables from a variety of different organizations that support veterans.

AARP also will honor and recognize Vietnam veterans as well as their caregivers for their support and service.

“I work with veterans on a regular basis and in doing so quickly realized that there are gaps in veteran benefit education and information”, said Liesa Dodson, a volunteer with Aging Together, which help organize the event. “When assistance is needed, it can be very overwhelming and veterans are often given misinformation and find themselves calling multiple numbers, while never really getting resolution to their questions.”

A Virginia Department of Veterans Services representative will be available to answer questions and provide correct contact information.

Lunch will be provided at the free event.
