International Gold Cup ticket discounts available

The races will take place Saturday, Oct. 28, at Great Meadow near The Plains.
Discounted general admission tickets have gone on sale for this month’s 80th annual International Gold Cup Races.

The classic autumn steeplechase meet will take place Saturday, Oct. 28, at Great Meadow near The Plains.

Fauquier County residents may purchase general admission vehicle passes for $56.25 apiece. Those passes, which admit up to six people, normally cost $75.

The discounted tickets — available only in the Virginia Gold Cup Association office at 90 Main St., Warrenton — require proof of residency. There is a limit of two per person. The office is open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays through Oct. 27.

Harris Teeter grocery stores also offer 20-percent discounts to VIC card holders. They may purchase general admission passes for $60 apiece.

The International Gold Cup, which normally attracts as many as 40,000 spectators, will feature eight steeplechase and flat races.

The $75,000 International Gold Cup race tops the card, which also features the $50,000 David L. “Zeke” Ferguson Memorial Hurdle Stakes.

The afternoon event also features tailgating, socializing, terrier race exhibitions, corporate tents, fancy hats and pari-mutuel betting.

The gates at Great Meadow will open at 10 a.m. Oct. 28. The first race starts at noon. Click here for the race day schedule.
