International Gold Cup ticket discounts available

Fauquier residents can buy discounted International Gold Cup tickets through Friday, Oct. 25, at the race office on Main Street in Warrenton.
Discounted general admission tickets have gone on sale for this month’s 82nd annual International Gold Cup Races.

The autumn classic steeplechase meet will take place Saturday, Oct. 26, at Great Meadow near The Plains.

The International Gold Cup, which normally attracts as many as 35,000 spectators, offers both steeplechase and flat races. The coveted $75,000 International Gold Cup Race over timber fences tops the card, which also features the $75,000 David L. “Zeke” Ferguson Memorial Hurdle Stakes.

The afternoon event also includes tailgating, socializing, terrier race exhibitions, corporate tents, fancy hats and pari-mutuel betting.

Fauquier County residents may purchase General Admission vehicle passes for $37.50 apiece. These passes which admit up to four people, normally cost $50. The discounted tickets — available only in the Virginia Gold Cup Association office at 90 Main St., Warrenton — require proof of residency. There is a limit of two per person. The office is open 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays through Oct. 25.

Harris Teeter grocery stores also offer a 20-percent discount to VIC card holders. You may purchase general admission car passes for $40 each, general admission wristbands for $20 each and members hill badges for $44 each.
