Lots of ingredients added as our nation cooks frog

By Dean F. Eckelberry
Warrenton

Referring to the writer’s classic “frog in boiling water” experiment that was conducted while he was a student in high school (Don Bachmann’s column published July 19), I too have pondered the analogy. At this critical time in our country, for the most part, our “frog” is being cooked!

I agree with the writer that the frog is focused on the fake flower (our broken welfare system, etc.) with the hope of luring insects. However, the recipe for cooking the frog is not complete; we need to add these ingredients:

• Our education system is stirring in many of the necessary ingredients: dumb down the students, changing our history, adding extra ingredients like: racism, excessive inclusiveness, white supremacy, etc., (season to your flavor).

• A peppery measure of an all-out assault on our religion. Put an extra dose in for what they think is added flavor, by adding suppression, and completely leaving out the most important ingredients, our fundamental rights — most importantly our First Amendment right.

• Our law enforcement: by pouring in a lot of unnecessary ingredients, i.e., too much defunding the police and adding large measures of Antifa and BLM and, for extra measure, stirring in our deep state, our judiciary system by packing the courts with liberal, far left judges.

The writer states: “The frog didn’t realize when the ever-warming water temperature began to affect its senses. We didn’t realize when the ever-warming political temperature began to affect our values.

“In the end, the frog would have unknowingly sacrificed its life to the fake flower; on January 6, many of us would have unknowingly sacrificed the life of our democracy to a demagogue.”

I must take exception to the writer’s use of fake messiah, demagogue and the reference to the January 6 event. First, the messiah is not fake, especially from the Christian viewpoint. (I know what he meant.) Secondly, most of the demagoguery is from the far-left liberals and the January 6 event was sadly turned into a melee by bad actors who want to see this country destroyed.

Hopefully the frog will not be cooked, perhaps because of, not only the ever-warming temperature but the frog got a taste of the awful ingredients and jumped out!
