I Could Have Danced All Night will stick with audience members as they leave the Fauquier Community Theatre this weekend.

FCT will open a three-weekend run of My Fair Lady on the Vint Hill stage at 7:30 p.m. Friday, May 3.

Adapted from George Bernard Shaw’s play, Pygmalion, and featuring the songs of Alan Lerner and Frederick Lowe, the show appeals to theater-goers of all ages.

My Fair Lady tells the story of a lowly young woman who peddles flowers on the street for a living. She dreams of a job in a flower shop, but her thick Cockney accent prevents her from getting off the streets and having a place to call her own.

When she meets linguist professor Henry Higgins, she asks him to help her, and he accepts the challenge — even making a wager with his friend that he is so good, he can transform the “lowly creature,” into a lady in six months. And the delightful collaboration begins.

Lucia Hanover directs the FCT cast, featuring Emily Miller as Eliza Doolittle and Peter Marsh as Professor Henry Higgins. Accomplished veterans of the stage, they and the other cast members have worked hard to perfect their accents and their dancing.

The cast also includes several children. Amanda Gibson is the producer.

The nine performances — May 3-19 — will be held in the Vint Hill Theater on the Green, at 4225 Aiken Drive, Warrenton. Friday and Saturday performances begin at 7:30 p.m., and Sunday matinees at 2 p.m.

Tickets are $18 for students and seniors, and $20 for adults.

Dinner and Show will be offered Sunday, May 5, (only) with the purchase of a combo ticket.
